Summary
The Visual Arts-Photography Graduate Assistant (GA) assists with the maintenance and supervision of the photography labs and studios, the printing labs, and the Andy Gato Galley.
Scope of responsibilities incudes: maintaining equipment and supplies inventories, monitoring compliance with health and safety standards, assisting with preparation for events, providing general assistance in related venues to faculty and students.
Contract is from August 15 to May 15, with an option for renewal based on performance Hours of work per week- 10-15 hours Compensation: tuition waiver and $15.00 hourly wage Essential Functions Photo Lab Duties Maintaining all standards for the safety and well-being of the students and facilities.
Assisting students with use of facilities.
Managing photography equipment rentals Maintaining photography labs, equipment and repairing equipment when possible.
Managing the inventory of photographic equipment and supplies.
Managing the inventory of photographic supplies.
Oversee silver recovery and all safety protocols for photography studios proper disposal of hazardous waste Updating all MSDS sheets for photography labs.
Working and coordinating jobs with other lab techs.
Oversight over student lab monitors Printing Lab Duties Organize/clean labs and print room Keep inventory of ink/paper and misc supplies that are in use Report and track technical issues to Supervisor Basic problem solving and printer maintenance adjustments/cleaning Assist Students with Printing .
Gallery Duties Keep inventory of gallery supplies and tools Maintain schedule of cleaning duties for gallery monitors Supervise Organize/clean gallery work room Assist with reception set-ups (45 minutes prior) Assist with reception clean-ups/lock ups Assist with the return of artwork following the close of the exhibition Assist with preparing the gallery for artwork Assist with the hanging of exhibitions Attend receptions Assisting with lighting of work.
Other Duties Assist professors with requested tasks Assist with the publicizing of events (web banners, posters, emails, etc...) Content Building Qualifications/Requirements Must have completed 18 credits in the MFA Photography program at Barry University Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA Proficiency in technical photographic skills Collegiality Organizational skills Dependability Ability to learn new tasks and accept feedback Positive Attitude Strong work ethic Professional demeanor Commitment to assigned tasks and responsibilities.
