The University of Wisconsin–Madison invites applications and nominations for the position of the Grainger Dean of the College of Engineering THE SEARCH The University of Wisconsin–Madison (UW–Madison)—among the nation's most renowned public research universities—seeks an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the next Grainger Dean of the College of Engineering (CoE). This position plays a pivotal role in building on the tremendous academic strengths within the college, ensuring meaningful connections to world-class research across UW–Madison, and facilitating the ongoing success and development of an impactful, future-oriented enterprise. As a public land-grant university and one of the most prolific research institutions in the world, UW–Madison is home to those who are driven by a desire both to explore new worlds and to apply new ideas to real-world problems. With a total annual budget of nearly $4 billion, including more than $1.52 billion in annual research expenditures, UW–Madison has been in the top ten for national research spending every year since 1972.
Since its inception in 1857, the College of Engineering has evolved into a multifaceted hub of innovation and academic excellence. The college encompasses eight departments , a network of more than 35 specialized research centers, consortia, and institutes , and an impressive array of over 150 research laboratories and groups. This environment supports a wide array of academic offerings, including more than a dozen undergraduate majors and an extensive selection of graduate programs .
The next Dean will inherit a strong foundation and a successful college poised for growth and enhanced impact. The Dean will join a dynamic and ambitious leadership team at the University that is striving to elevate UW–Madison to even greater heights of excellence in research and influence.
The successful candidate will continue the history of excellence in education and extend the upward momentum in research endeavors and discoveries. The next Dean will also enhance partnerships with public and private entities that provide opportunities for students and the research enterprise. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in a represented field; and a record of excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service that qualifies the candidate for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
