Overall role purpose
The Technical Delivery Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of technical projects related to Leap, our primary audit tool, used by our member firms, globally. This role involves coordinating and managing the end-to-end delivery process, ensuring that code deployments and projects are completed on time, within scope, and meeting quality standards.
Main responsibilities This role will coordinate with the team's Scrum Master and Associate Director of DevOps, along with Product Owner and Development teams for coordination and execution of work including:
Configuration ModificationChange Management/Change Control ReviewBuild and Release ManagementVersion ControlSource Code Auditing/reportingEnvironment Support and TroubleshootingThe Technical Delivery Manager is also responsible for reporting on the status of a release to other workstreams and project management.
This role will support and drive the deployment efforts of Project LEAP sprints. Activities will include: Deployment PlanningConduct release planning and calendar managementReview process adherence, resource utilization, and contingency and rollback plansDocument the release scope and deliverablesLead and coordinate the release readiness reviews, milestones, and the business Go/No-GoActivities including the execution of the deployment plans and checklists: Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule, and qualityDevelop strategies and plans for pre-deployment, post-deployment, release lessons learned, retrospection and integration processesCoordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updatesLeadership and Communication Measure and monitor progress against plan to ensure releases are delivered on time and follow the procedures defined to deliver a quality releaseCommunicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including requirements, QA plans, schedule, and scope changes to stakeholders, ensuring alignment across key partners and vendors during and after deploymentManage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations including client organizationsCoordinate across the Ops and Engineering teams the deployment schedule by environment and any specific data requirements. Provide guidance and support for key issues and risk resolution with application build and release.Liaison with direct and indirect stakeholders: DevOps Team, leadership, development team and customersParticipate in strategy planning meetings for application releasesCreate staffing models to support ongoing release activitiesEstablish Standards and Processes Create requests for change and obtain appropriate approvalsDiagram release process flow for new hires into the organizationIdentify key performance indicators for measuring the build/release processWork with the Operations team to improve and refine the acceptance criteria and engage organizational stakeholders to ensure that the solution is meeting/exceeding expectationsMaintain a release repository and manage key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification listsWork alongside the Service Delivery Manager to ensure key project plans, commitments, and changes are planned in release managementManage Cloud Infrastructure DocumentationDeployment processes for cloud service and virtualization technologiesThe Technical Delivery Manager is responsible for coordinating the release management for releases (Sprint, Maintenance and Feature). Maintain general knowledge of the scripts and automation tools used by the DevOps team to build, release and deploy software releasesPerform environment planning, provisioning, and management required to support releasesWork with the application product teams to collect the necessary setup requirements for releasesCreate and maintain accurate customer blueprint documentation in preparation for new or ongoing releasesExperience with Azure DevOps and knowledge of version controlCoordinate and participate in troubleshooting Integration and deployment IssuesThe Technical Delivery Manager monitors, communicates, and escalates during the deployment process. Keep stakeholders informed of the deployment progress according to the communication planLiaise with DevOps and Development for troubleshooting. Invoke other processes, such as Major Incident Management, if needed.Document the release timeline and any exceptions or interventions to the plan as they occurConduct post-deployment reviews to understand areas for improvementContinuously improve the release management process and metricsKey Responsibilities and Skills Project Management: Technical Delivery Managers are adept at project management methodologies. They plan, execute, and close projects, ensuring that goals and objectives are achieved.Team Leadership: They lead and motivate cross-functional teams, including developers, engineers, and other technical professionals, to work collaboratively towards project success.Client Interaction: Technical Delivery Managers often serve as a bridge between technical teams and clients/stakeholders. They communicate project progress, manage expectations, and address any concerns.Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating project risks is a crucial aspect of the role. Technical Delivery Managers assess potential risks and develop strategies to minimize their impact on project delivery.Resource Allocation: They manage resources efficiently, including human resources, time, and budget, to ensure optimal project delivery.Technical Understanding: While not necessarily hands-on in technical tasks, Technical Delivery Managers should have a solid understanding of the technologies and processes involved in the projects they oversee.Timeline Management: Creating and managing project timelines is essential. Technical Delivery Managers set realistic schedules and monitor progress to ensure timely delivery.Communication Skills: Effective communication is crucial for this role. Technical Delivery Managers need to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Adaptability: Given the dynamic nature of technology projects, adaptability is essential. Technical Delivery Managers should be able to adjust to changes in project scope, requirements, or timelines.Problem Solving: They are adept at identifying and solving problems that may arise during the course of a project, ensuring smooth project progression.Person specification Team management skills – ability to drive cross-functional teams to project goals and timelinesCommunication skills – help align stakeholders, define dependencies and plan efficiently and communicate release schedules, progress, blockersMentorship – Ability to guide, train and coach resources involved in the release and deployment lifecycle.Data skills - Use data to get insights, inform decisions and reach business KPIs and product metrics important to the businessTechnical skills – Background in Cloud Engineering, Development, or QAProduct skills – 6+ years of successful product managementExperience – Essential Strong communication skillsProven track record in ontime/on spec project deliveryStrong relationship skills and cultural awareness, the ability to work well with people from different disciplines and cultures.Ability to be agile, respond positively to change and contribute with an innovative and global mindset.5+ years of successful product management and delivery
