About this role We are seeking a dynamic and strategic finance leader to join Substack as the Head of FP&A and Strategic Finance. In this role, you will report directly to the CFO and lead all aspects of financial planning, analysis, and long-range strategic forecasting. You will be a key business partner to the leadership team, providing insights and guidance on business performance, growth strategies, and financial decision-making. This is a critical role for ensuring Substack scales efficiently and drives sustainable growth in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Our cash compensation salary range for this role is $220,000-$260,000. Multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, determine final offer amounts and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Key Responsibilities: Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)Own the annual budget process, quarterly forecasts, and long-term financial planningDevelop and maintain financial models that provide comprehensive insights into business performancePartner with department heads to provide financial guidance, ensuring alignment of financial goals with business strategiesDrive variance analysis to ensure accountability and understanding of financial outcomes against planStrategic FinanceProvide thought leadership on growth initiatives, resource allocation, and capital efficiencyLead scenario analysis and financial modeling to support key decisions, including M&A, partnerships and new product launchesCollaborate closely with the business and product teams to analyze the financial impact of new features and servicesProvide ongoing analysis of competitive positioning and market opportunitiesReporting and InsightsDevelop and enhance management reporting to provide key stakeholders with actionable insightsPrepare materials and present financial results, forecasts, and strategic insights to the leadership teamPartner with the accounting team to ensure the integrity of financial results and adherence to financial controlsCross-functional CollaborationWork closely with operations, marketing, sales, and product teams to ensure that financial strategies are integrated into all aspects of the businessSupport fundraising activities, including preparation for potential future rounds, working closely with the CFO and external stakeholdersQualifications: 10+ years experience in FP&A, strategic finance, or investment banking with at least 3 years in a leadership roleExperience at a high-growth tech company, preferably in consumer SaaS or Marketplace platformsStrong understanding of financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planningExceptional analytical skills with the ability to distill complex financial data into actionable insightsProven track record of partnering with senior leadership to drive financial and strategic outcomesExcellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organizationAdvanced proficiency in financial systems and ExcelBachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or related fieldAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracyYou have your own connection to Substack's mission and are game to work from Substack's SF HQ at least 2-3 days per week.Substack is an equal opportunity employer.
