As Spotify's Head of Intellectual Property, you will be responsible for managing the company's patent and trademark risk and overseeing protection of the company's technology and brands. This includes driving the strategy and execution of our patent, trademark, and copyright portfolios, IP counseling (including support for M&A and other transactions), and disputes.
\n What You'll DoDrive the strategy and execution of our patent and trademark portfolioAdvise on what inventions to protect and how best to protect them, working with internal patent engineers and external patent counselOversee our trademark enforcement programReview and assess incoming patent license demands and patent infringement allegationsDevelop freedom to operate strategiesDraft cease and desist letters and other correspondence relating to infringement of intellectual property, and handle resolution of routine matters as the primary point of contact with adversarial partiesWork closely and cross-functionally with other members of the Spotify legal team to provide hard IP input on product counseling and transactional matters Who You AreYou have a law degree (or equivalent) from a top-tier law school10+ years of experience in intellectual property, including at both a law firm and in-house, preferably at a tech companyYou are a member of good standing of at least one US state bar and are qualified to practice as in-house counsel in the State of New YorkYou are tech-savvy and can quickly learn and understand cutting-edge technologyA passion for legal problems; you can explain legal concepts to non-lawyersA problem solver, and can stay calm when problems come your wayYou are self-motivated and can identify and attack work to be done without being instructedYou can adapt to fast-moving and changing projects, prioritizing and triaging effectivelyYou have experience drafting IP provisions for transactions including both commercial and M&AExcellent communication skills, and are comfortable with and competent at working cross-functionally Where You'll BeThis position is located in New York, New York
\nThe United States base range for this position is $198,441-$283,487, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays.
