Job Title: Head of Ocean FreightJob Location: Chicago, IL
We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of OCEAN FREIGHT in Chicago. This role supports the execution of the ocean freight strategy, provides ocean freight expertise, and monitors all ocean freight related activities performed at the station level to effectively manage the end-to-end ocean freight process. This person also ensures optimization of ocean freight transaction operations in line with customer requirements to deliver a cost-effective execution.
Key Responsibilities:Point of contact for OPS and Service Quality related issues (e.g. customer complaints / escalations, exception management, shipment irregularities, service recovery, etc.)Supports local process enhancements and actively supports global improvement initiatives and standard procedures.Contributes to country ocean freight product agenda and projects/initiatives.Supports execution of Gross Profit Improvement Program across the region and country.Communicate implications of regional and country ocean freight policies/guidelines and support training with stations.Support business development and tactical opportunity conversion by providing operational expertise and ensuring operational customer requirements are met.Support development and drive implementation of new solutions/services including sector specific solutions.Supports Spot Quote Pricing strategy.Support and drive compliance to KPIs, with special focus on timely responding to requests.Ensures adherence to guidelines and standards established by Pricing group.Supports and drives adherence to usage of tools and sources as defined by Pricing group.Drive cargo optimization in ocean/cartage vendors.Enables and facilitates efficient service delivery that meets or exceeds customer expectations.Coordinate with ocean colleagues to ensure prompt issue resolution.Contribute to ensure achievement of business growth, revenue & profitability.Ensure compliance at station level with global and regional ocean freight policies and guidelines.Ensure compliance of stations with customer SOPs.Contributes to lessons learned.Ability to influence decisions/actions by providing value-added feedback to ocean product and country management.Skills / Requirements:7+ years of professional experience in logistics sector on ocean freight operations (i.e. handling, documentation, clearance).5-7 years of leadership experience.Experienced in in-house applications, e.g. Logis Ocean, RPMS, FSI, COSS, Cargo Wise a plus.Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office tools, intermediate level in Excel).Assertive and able to influence others, communication skills, team player.High level of commitment, very dynamic, project management skills.Sensitive to urgency and able to work/keep focus under pressure.Highly organized, project management tools and expertise.Analytical skills, detail-oriented.People management skills (excellent).Labor Relations/Union environment experience a plus.Benefits:Total Compensation Package: We offer a competitive base salary.401(k) with a match: Pre-tax 401(k) contribution plan comes with a $1 for $1 match up to 4% quarterly, plus a 2% base contribution annually to help you save for retirement.Stock Purchase Plan: Eligible employees can purchase Deutsche Post AG shares at a 15% discount and benefit from the Group's success as shareholders.Medical: We offer comprehensive healthcare plans covering preventative care, inpatient and outpatient services, and prescription drugs.Vision: Optional coverage for eye exams, frames, and contact lenses.Dental: Optional coverage for preventative, major, and basic dental services.Holiday / Paid Time Off: The company provides paid time off for 7 major holidays each calendar year, plus 8 floating holidays, and accrued vacation days.Why join DHL Global Forwarding?We are part of the DHL Group, the world's leading logistics provider with operations in over 220 countries.
