Job Title: Head of Payroll

Salary: Circa £85,000 Plus Fantastic Benefits including Final Salary Pension and free Travel on the TfL network

Location: Hybrid – North Greenwich (near the O2) and Working from Home -50/50

About the role
The role is responsible for delivery of elements of the end-to-end Employee Payments processes including payroll, expenses and overtime payments (and more!). Driving continuous improvement initiatives across strategy, people, process and technology and ensuring compliance with all necessary relevant obligations and that internal and external reporting requirements are in place are key parts of the role. The role is not only responsible for the successful delivery of the payroll for TfL – they also deliver payroll services for the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC).

The Team
Employee Payments is part of the Business Services Directorate in TfL which provides reliable people, procurement, property and finance services across TfL. We are the team who deliver 10 payrolls, covering over 29,000 permanent and fixed term colleagues worth a total of £150 million every four weeks. The team is 15 members strong and you will have 3 direct reports, all permanent members of staff who are established experts. Payroll for our contingent labour is delivered via our external partner, Reed. Over the next few years, we will be looking to update our payroll platform to SuccessFactors Employee Central payroll.

About you
You are great at multi-tasking and managing senior stakeholders with conflicting priorities. You have excellent communication skills and have led a team delivering payroll and expenses in a large organisation. Ideally you have experience of implementing payroll systems, reviewing processes and ways of working to achieve the best service and efficiency possible (we are moving to SuccessFactors a SAP product) and will be CIPD qualified. You have detailed and practical knowledge of company and statutory legislation relevant to Income Tax (PAYE), National Insurance, OSP, SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP and company pension schemes. Your experience would ideally include some exposure to unionised environments but large and complex would likely help you deal with that part. We are open to industry background.
