Southside Blooms is looking to add a Head of Production to its team.
Based in the southside of Chicago, Southside Blooms is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is a farm-to-vase florist providing unique and fashion-forward arrangements while maintaining an uncompromising dedication to the environment and its surrounding communities. As the Head of Production at Southside Blooms, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of flower production, including cultivation, harvest, and post-harvest handling. This leadership role ensures that the production process aligns with the organization's sustainability goals and mission of Southside Blooms. You will lead a team of at-risk youth and other staff, ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of all farm operations.
Your Core Contributions To The TeamDevelop and implement seasonal production plans for flower cultivation, harvest, and processing.Monitor production timelines to ensure alignment with demand and delivery schedules.Maintain sustainable farming practices, ensuring minimal environmental impact.Manage production staff and youth farmers, providing training, support, and oversight to ensure productivity and adherence to quality standards.Cultivate a positive work environment that supports the growth and development of at-risk youth.Ensure high standards of flower quality, from cultivation to post-harvest.Identify areas for process improvement, developing strategies to increase efficiency and reduce waste.Work closely with other teams to ensure seamless coordination of production with business needs.Oversee the sourcing and management of supplies (e.g., seeds, tools, fertilizers, etc.) in alignment with sustainability goals.Track and manage production inventory to meet demands while minimizing overproduction or shortages.Ensure that all production activities comply with safety and health regulations.Maintain accurate records of production, including harvest volumes and quality control data.Oversee the management of farm equipment, machinery, and facilities, ensuring regular maintenance, repair, and upgrades as needed to maximize efficiency and productivity.Transport tools, trailers, crops, etc., using a large SUV.About YouKnowledge, abilities, and qualificationsProven experience in farm or floral production management, with focus on sustainability. Experience with floral a plus but not required.Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams in a hands-on environment.Familiarity with sustainable agriculture practices, including urban farming.Ability to work collaboratively across departments to meet production and organizational goals.Excellent organizational and time-management skills.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Passion for community engagement and supporting the development of youth.Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor, lifting 50 pounds.Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.Hold a valid driver's license.What We Provide YouSouthside Blooms works hard to provide benefits that make your life better.
