JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Head Women's Soccer Coach is responsible for recruiting, coaching and planning for the women's soccer team, contributing to the educational mission of the University by offering direction and instruction in the area of soccer athletics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Contribute to the educational mission of the University by coordinating the instruction of student-athletes in the area of soccer training and competition; Recruit student athletes for the women's varsity soccer programs; Instruct methods and strategies and coach student athletes in the sport; Provide motivation, both athletic and academic, to student athletes; Make recommendations for scholarships; Considered Essential Personnel whose physical presence is required on campus and must also be prepared to address those functions remotely as needed when operations are restricted or the campus is closed; Schedule practices and games; Responsible for providing, in a timely manner before the beginning of the season, to the public relations office all material relevant to the team so a recruiting/media pamphlet on the team can be prepared; Coordinate with public relations the manner in which team scores will be reported to the media for home and away games; Operate the program under the rules and regulations of the university, the NCAA and the MAAC; Maintain confidentiality of information, both during and after their employment with the University. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Perform other duties as assigned. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 45% Coach women's soccer student-athletes and supervise the assistant coach; 40% Recruit student-athletes for the women's soccer program; 5% Maintain budget and other administrative duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques and the ability to effectively use them. Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to effectively use them. Ability to read and comprehend various forms, documentation, files and information in the department. Basic mathematical skills to verify accuracy of record keeping and athletics information. Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills. Proficiency to handle various office machines. Ability to handle routine office operations (typing, filing, record keeping, etc.). Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary. Ability to travel when necessary. Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business on a regular basis. ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS: The functions of the position usually performed standing, but do involve some amount of time sitting. Tasks will involve instruction in fitness activities involving running, walking and lifting. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS: Bachelor's degree in related field is required or high school diploma with a high level amateur or professional playing and/or coaching experience. At least one year of experience coaching soccer at the high school, college or higher competitive level or at least three years' experience playing soccer at the college level or higher.
