Job Description
The Health Educator, under general supervision, plans, implements, and evaluates theory and evidence-based health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services for students.
Provides health training and guidance.
Performs outreach functions on and off campus and supervises student staff, interns, and/or peer educators.
This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities: Manage health education budget and expenditures.
Plan, develop, and implement a systematic student assessment for health and well-being.
Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services and track trends in student health and well-being statuses.
Prepare an annual review of the services for accreditation.
Create and maintain the annual health and well-being calendar.
Develop program proposals, content, learning resources, and evaluation tools for specific educational interventions based on needs assessment results.
Train, evaluate, and supervise student peer educators.
Prepare and review educational and promotional materials including flyers, pamphlets, social media accounts, and giveaway items.
Maintain collaborative relationships with student leaders, campus faculty, staff, and community partners.
Actively build a network of community partners to aid and assist students.
Represent health services at campus and community events including orientation, informational fairs, etc.
Serve as a campus resource for timely, current, and relevant health information as it relates to college health.
Engage in regular professional development.
Conduct research on best practices in health and well-being to deliver evidence-based services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion, or applicable field.
Two years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Knowledge of responsibilities and competencies of health education.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to analyze emerging health promotion needs of adults and college students.
Ability to critically review health-related professional literature relevant to college students and assess its applicability and utility for effectiveness on the college campus.
Ability to do presentations, workshop trainings, individual behavior change sessions, and small group discussions and facilitations.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
Two years of related experience providing health education, and/or health promotion programming at the college level.
Previous experience mentoring student organizations.
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC).
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
