JOB SUMMARY: To assist the nursing staff in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities that occur in the nurse's station by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area. Prepares and compiles records in nursing unit by performing the following duties. This opportunity is for full-time days.
EDUCATION: GED or High School Diploma (preferred)
EXPERIENCE: One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
Clerical and computer experience. (preferred)
Knowledge of medical and technical terminology. (preferred)
CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: CPR certification within 90 days after employment. (required)
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: Adheres to Brodstone Healthcare Mission, Vision and Values.Adheres to Brodstone Healthcare Standards of Behavior.Keeps all patient information confidential and respects patients' privacy.Confers with the charge nurse regarding scheduling patient's activities and tests.Performs clerical functions for providers within the HUC's sphere of responsibility.Notifies ambulance staff or air care service for transfer to another facility.Efficiently notifies on call staff for all departments including medical staff.Keeps the on-call schedule updated as directed.Prepares appropriate supplies and notifies aide/RN specimen needed per orders. Delivers specimens to the lab following approval/request of RN.Assists with registration of new patients and obtaining consents in the EHR. Prepares and keeps current the patient night report and other forms as necessary.Efficiently uses EHR as warranted for assigned tasks.Performs clerical duties related to the admission and discharge of patients including obtaining patient data needed for computer file, verification of current data and obtain admission consent when office closed. Enter admission, discharge and transfer data into computer as warranted.Assists in orientation of new staff to clerical duties of the unit.Notifies various departments, family, nursing home, or necessary others when a patient is dismissed or transferred. Fills out required transfer forms, consents and prepares copies of the medial record as ordered to accompany patient or fax if requested.Performs various related clerical duties (i.e., prepares reports and maintains records, files, and manuals according to procedure and policies accepted by the hospital and the nursing unit.)Prints educational material for charge nurse when procedures/tests are ordered.Keeps nurse's station, visitors lounge, and chapel area neat and orderly.Answers telephone and intercom calls and provides information or relays messages to patients and medical staff. Directs visitors to patients' rooms.Distributes mail, newspapers and flowers to patients.Participates in economical utilization of supplies.Communicates forms and clerical supply needs to CNO.Keeps informed by reading emails.Uses good infection control techniques following standard precautions.Retrieves patient information from EHR upon request while assuring that all medical records are protected.Performs various other functions as assigned by the charge nurse.Promptly assists new admissions to their assigned room if nurse is not available or as directed by charge nurse.Accompanies dismissal patient to transportation when assigned.Attends and participates in departmental meetings / in-services, Brodstone Healthcare quality improvement program, etc.
