Organisation The position is based in the Health and Wellbeing Centre on Kingsgate Street, at the heart of the School campus. The role reports directly to the Deputy Head Pastoral and will assume overall responsibility for the Health and Wellbeing team, working in close collaboration with the Lead Nurse.

The school is expanding and entering a phase of strategic planning for the future which will see a need for greater structure and operational effectiveness in core areas. The Health and Wellbeing Centre is an essential part of the offering for pupils.

The Health and Wellbeing Centre Manager should liaise closely with (internally): Pupils, pastoral staff including the Surmaster Pastoral, Chaplains, Safeguarding team, boarding staff plus SMT; and (externally) Parents and Guardians, relevant professional bodies, children's services and other statutory bodies, and professional counterparts in other similar schools.

Strategic responsibilities Responsible for designing, implementing and reviewing the School's Health and Wellbeing strategy in conjunction with the Deputy Head Pastoral and Surmaster Pastoral. Ensuring that the Health and Wellbeing Centre is ready for the arrival of girl boarders from September 2026. Ensure that the Health and Wellbeing Centre runs in accordance with the nature of the School as a seven-day-a-week boarding and day school. Ensure that the operation of the Health and Wellbeing Centre is in tune with the ethos of the School, and particularly in relation to the school's policies on pastoral care and safeguarding. Termly reporting to Deputy Head Pastoral. Provide oversight for services including developing and monitoring outcomes. Lead and promote whole school health and wellbeing initiatives. Management responsibilities With the Lead Nurse, liaise with the School Doctor and their practice, and hold regular review meetings. Appraise the Lead Nurse in conjunction with the School Doctor. Shared line management of the counselling team (with the Deputy Head Pastoral) including an annual review. Assess the requirement for additional support to the Health and Wellbeing Centre, e.g. Physiotherapy. Assess the Medical Centre staff's professional training and development needs in conjunction with the School Doctor to ensure that the Health and Wellbeing Centre continues to offer first-class medical care which complies with current best practice. Organise and oversee training programmes and an induction programme for Health and Wellbeing Centre staff. With the assistance of HR, direct and control the selection and recruitment of Health and Wellbeing Centre staff as required. Prepare, review and publish policies and guidelines, as required, relating to the management of the Health and Wellbeing Centre and the health and welfare of pupils, staff and visitors. Manage the Health and Wellbeing Centre budget in conjunction with the Deputy Head Pastoral (via support from the Bursary). Authorise and submit time sheets for part-time staff as appropriate. Ensure that iSAMS is used accurately and consistently by all members of Health and Wellbeing Centre. Regular production and review of Health and Wellbeing data from iSAMS to enable continued improvement in provision of service. Continue the strategic and operational development of pupil data and monitoring systems including iSAMS and CPOMS. Maintain online resources and wellbeing presence online, both internally and externally, working with marketing, IT and other staff. Working closely with the Leadership Team and the Director of HR, advising on Staff emotional health and wellbeing and providing updates to relevant sections of the staff handbook. Close liaison with the Fellow (Governor) with special interest in staff wellbeing. Providing reports to the Governing Body as requested. Manage complaints with skill and diplomacy. Review the appraisals of nurses and healthcare assistants and develop associated training needs. Oversee the induction of new staff in the Health and Wellbeing Centre. Compliance Ensure that all Health and Wellbeing Centre staff are correctly registered and trained at all times. Oversee the maintenance of proper records as requested by regulatory bodies such as the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) to facilitate easy and accurate retrieval of information. Ensure the methods are consistent with those used in St Paul's. Be responsible for Health and Safety (H&S) issues within the Health and Wellbeing Centre and carry out periodic H&S risk assessments. Arrange for appropriate health and safety training for all Health and Wellbeing Centre staff. Maintain an up-to-date record on all hazardous substances used and stored in the Health and Wellbeing Centre. Apply the School's H&S policies. Ensure the storage and communication of personal information complies with the school's Data Protection policy. Personal Specification RGN Qualified Nurse and/or RSCN Paediatric Nurse. Experience of managing a ward or a team within a similar environment. Previous similar experience in an independent boarding school would be an advantage. Calm and focussed under pressure. Experience of managing other team members to deliver high levels of customer service. Strong organisational skills. Excellent communication skills, clear written and verbal communication and the ability to analyse and present data effectively. Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to take initiative and think creatively to solve problems. Excellent IT skills and a willingness to learn new platforms. Attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to prioritise work effectively. Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly with young people. Diplomatic, tactful and able to handle sensitive information and conversations. Strong work ethic, able to work flexibly and independently. Good judgement, high integrity and genuine commitment to Winchesters aims. Experience working in a girls boarding desirable but not essential. Commitment to best practice in Safeguarding.
