Job OpportunitiesThe City of Grovetown is currently accepting applicants for a Heavy Equipment Operator I at the Streets and Sanitation Department. This position pays $17.94 per hour. All full-time employees are eligible for 100% paid medical insurance, dental coverage, life insurance, short term disability, and paid retirement.
JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to perform daily tasks associated with the Streets and Sanitation Department's street cleaning and maintenance, clearing/cleaning of City rights-of-way, and clearing trash and debris. This includes the operation of heavy and light equipment, small engine equipment, power tools, and performing heavy physical labor under adverse conditions. This position requires training and experience normally associated with two years' experience in a similar position.
Duties include but are not limited to the following: Operation of heavy and light equipment including street sweepers, tractors, front loaders, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, track dossiers, and other equipment the City may acquire.Perform routine and special inspections of heavy and light equipment and trucks according to CDL, OSHA, and other guidelines.Properly report issues, damage, etc., through the proper process and to the proper parties.Work as a member of the Streets and Sanitation crew.Pick up garbage, refuse, and recyclables; pick up heavy trash and clean area after pickup; and pick up rough trash and bulk waste and clean area after pickup.Pours and shovels asphalt or concrete to perform road repairs.Rakes, tamps, and smooths asphalt or concrete.Packs supplies needed at job site(s).Digs holes, unstops ditches, and clears debris that may stop water flow through street drains and pipes.Uses sand, gravel, and/or other materials to patch holes.React to storms and other emergencies and assist other departments if needed.Takes corrective action on missing/damaged street signs.Beautifies rights-of-way and other designated areas.Performs other duties as assigned or required of the program.Trains other employees as needed.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of City geography including City maps/streets/locations.Knowledge of appropriate materials used in patching roads.Knowledge of City policies and procedures related to operation of the department.Knowledge of safety regulations.Knowledge of commercial driving rules, regulations, and laws.Knowledge and skills in inspecting vehicles and equipment for safety and serviceability according to CDL, OSHA, and other guidelines.Skills in operating small engine equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers, and other landscape maintenance and installation machinery.Skills in operating some of the following heavy and light equipment: Vacuum trucks, street sweepers, tractors, front loaders, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, track dossiers, and other equipment the City may acquire.Skills in driving light and heavy trucks.Skills in maintaining large and small equipment.Skills in using hand tools and power tools, such as chainsaws, pole saws, and other similar power tools.Skills in performing basic safety regulations.Ability to be cross-trained to perform other related duties.Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.Ability to train other employees.Ability to understand oral and written instructions.Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate in the English language fluently and proficiently.Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with fellow employees and the general public.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, contractors, vendors, and the general public.Requirements: Employee must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.Employee must possess and maintain a valid CDL Class B or higher driver's license and CDL Medical Certification or obtain and maintain a valid CDL Class B or higher driver's license and CDL Medical Certification within one year of appointment.Employee must have two years' experience working in a similar job with progressive responsibilities (supervision experience preferred); a combination of certifications, training, and experience may be accepted.Employee must possess a high school diploma/GED.Employee must be at least 18 years of age.Employee is subject to a pre-employment background check and drug screen.Employee must have a good driving record.Employee is subject to random drug screens.Employee must follow all policies, rules, and regulations of the City.Submit a City application to David Toulson, HR Director, City of Grovetown, P.O.
