Overview Hemodialysis Tech Inpatient Dialysis Winston, AHWFB Hemodialysis Tech (PRN), provides assistance to the nursing staff in rendering specific treatments in addition to basic nursing care to assigned patients and their families. Provides direct and indirect care following physician and nursing orders to achieve the highest standards of age/developmentally specific care. Responsible for the setup and operation of the hemodialysis machine under the direction of licensed personnel.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
With direct patient care experience.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT), or certification obtained within 18 months of hire.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Participates in the implementation of the nursing process by giving direct care to the renal/dialysis patients such as comfort measures, personal care, treatments and collecting data (assisting with admissions, transfers, discharges, pre and post-operative care) to patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse, anticipating the renal patient's needs.
2. Ensures quality patient care by following the plan of care and ensuring complete accurate and timely communication (oral and written documentation) of patient information.
3. Evaluates patient prior to dialysis, recognizing any risk for instability and advising nurse immediately.
4. Ensures dialysis machine is set up according to each patient's prescription prior to use.
5. Monitors the progress of dialysis treatment to ensure patient remains stable, that equipment is functioning properly and the Nurse is aware of ongoing procedure.
6. Performs maintenance procedures to dialysis equipment including breakdown of the machine, checks of the R/O water system, and ensures equipment is cleaned according to specifications.
7. Maintains communication with the team, co-workers, patients, and family members in an effective, positive and professional manner.
8. Takes personal responsibility and initiative for performance by accepting accountability for the care given to the assigned patients, maintaining competence, and CCHT listing renewal.
9. Provides age/development appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
