Job SummaryPrepares (processes, embeds, cuts, stains) tissue specimen for microscopic examination by a pathologist so that a diagnosis can be made.Essential Functions:Prepares tissues for microscopic examination including embedding tissue; microtome sectioning; routine H & E staining, coverslipping, and labeling slides.Performs dissection and gross description of specimens for reference and other tissue as needed.May prepare specimens for frozen section examination by a pathologist including the freezing, cutting, staining and preparation of slides. Maintains inventory of chemicals, stains and controls.May clean lab equipment / work area and communicate any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department. Participates in the maintenance of section equipment and quality control procedures.Will learn the skill set of a histotechnologist to include embedding tissue, cutting tissue, preparing slides, various staining procedures to include immunohistochemical staining, specimen processing, instrument operation and maintenance.Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field, including best practices to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
