About the Organization Horizons at Episcopal Academy (HEA) is a community-centered education program serving students from the Greater Philadelphia area. Horizons advances educational equity by building long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences that inspire the joy of learning. The main component of Horizons is a six-week summer program located on the campus of Episcopal Academy, where students participate in academic, cultural, and recreational enrichment activities. The six-week program is supplemented by a growing school-year program, where students participate in after-school tutoring, community service, and cultural and celebratory events quarterly. HEA operates a proven model and is part of an affiliated network with over 70 Horizons sites serving students across the country.
About the Position The part-time Development and Communications Manager will assist the Executive Director and Board of Directors with Horizons at Episcopal Academy (HEA's) development, outreach, and stakeholder relations activities. The role includes leading the planning and execution of key tasks to steward existing donors and increase the donor base, as well as overall responsibility for foundation relationships and grant writing. This position reports to the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities Assist in the development and execution of HEA's fundraising and marketing strategy, with the support of the Executive Director and Board of Directors. Seek major gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies through donor correspondence, event/reception planning, grant applications, and personal visits. Build and maintain effective donor management systems, including managing the donor database system (Network for Good), to effectively track and maintain deep relationships with HEA supporters. Oversee special donor events, including Horizons Giving Day and the annual signature Spring fundraising event. Maintain an active schedule of solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship calls to donors and new prospects. Work closely with Executive Director on key marketing initiatives (events, brochure development, videos, press releases, etc.). Develop marketing toolkits with tailored materials for prospective donors, host institutions, board members, and "high impact" champions. Create and publish social media content. Present development reports to the Board of Directors and Fundraising Committee at their respective meetings (4X per year). Serve on committees (fundraising, marketing, finance, and event) to enhance communication, collaboration, and overall strategy impact. Skills and Qualifications Demonstrated success in fundraising, foundation relationship, and grant writing experience. 5+ years of professional fundraising leadership experience or comparable experience. Direct donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation experience. Persuasive public speaking, written and verbal communication skills. Excellent planning and organizational skills, detail-oriented, and demonstrated ability to manage deadlines and multiple ongoing projects from start to finish. Skilled at building relationships and collaborating with diverse groups, independently and as an effective team member. Unwavering commitment to customer service and satisfaction. Candidates should have experience working in a diverse setting and demonstrate a commitment to co-creating a racially just and inclusive community. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word (or Google Suites alternatives), Canva, fundraising software, and social media.
