Responsibilities
• Massage therapy; reduce pain and tension, improve circulation, reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood and mental clarity, and help with sleep• Music therapy; playing an instrument, singing or facilitating the listening of patient's favorite music to help improve mood, reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, relaxation and pain relief and help with feelings of anxiety and depression• Companionship; writing letters or cards to friends and relatives, reading aloud, talking about subjects the patient is interested in, walk with patient, assist with refreshments and meals, provide transportation, watch TV or movies, play games and so much more!• Pet therapy; to release endorphins which improve mood and reduce pain, decrease stress and anxiety, encourage communication and reduce boredom.• Other support services include shopping, light housekeeping, cooking meals, caring for a pet, sorting and responding to mail among many other things!
Requirements
• Successful completion of the Hospice Volunteer training and orientation program• Previous volunteer experience preferred, but not required!
