Telecommuting Eligible: SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)A hospitalist will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to patients while working independently and collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team. A Hospitalist provides direct inpatient care to patients in a hospital setting. Coordinates all aspects of care for hospitalized medical patients. This position requires strong diagnostic, assessment, and treatment skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation: MD/DO Degree, NJ & PA licenses. Board certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties in Family or Internal Medicine or board-eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
Experience: 3+ years of post-graduate training from an accredited family medicine or internal medicine residency program; 3+ years of experience practicing as a primary care physician preferred.
Other Credentials: DEA, CDS (NJ Only)
Knowledge and Skills: Strong communication skills, highly organized, and highly productive.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSExamine, diagnose, and treat hospitalized patients.Evaluate patients in the Emergency Room, following them into the appropriate Medical/Surgical or Telemetry Inpatient Units, hospice level beds, sub-acute or acute level beds, Psychiatric Inpatients units, or any area that a patient may require.Direct, coordinate, or supervise the patients' care activities of nursing or support staff.Work in collaboration to support the operations and management of short stay or specialty units such as Pre-admission testing, Observations, or Surge Units.Refer patients to medical specialists, social services, or to other professionals as appropriate.Follow up on recommendations made by consultants as indicated.Coordinate medical care, performing tasks to ensure that patient's medical needs are met.Write patient discharge summaries and send them to primary care physicians.Participate in continuing education activities to maintain or enhance knowledge and skills.Active participation in quality improvement initiatives through involvement in hospital-based committees, project leadership, or pilot programs intended to advance patient care.Role in training and mentoring residents and allied health providers.Manage the resuscitation team including leading Code Blue's, Rapid Resuscitation Team and perform all necessary interventions required by these. Hospitalists are to be AHA, ACLS certified.Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds and meetings that facilitate patient care including family meetings.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTFrequent physical demands include: Standing, Walking, Bending, Reaching forward, Wrist position deviation, Pinching/fine motor activities, Keyboard use/repetitive motion.
Occasional physical demands include: Sitting, Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders), Carrying objects, Pushing/Pulling, Twisting, Reaching overhead, Squatting/kneeling/crawling, Taste or Smell.
Continuous physical demands include: Talking or Hearing.
Lifting Floor to Waist: 10 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above: 5 lbs.
Sensory Requirements include: Accurate Near Vision, Accurate Far Vision, Accurate Color Discrimination, Accurate Depth Perception, Accurate Hearing.
