JOB SUMMARY: The Head Start/Early Head Start/Early Head Start-Child Care (HS/EHS/EHS-CC) Assistant Disabilities and Mental Health and Community Engagement Specialist will work half time assisting the Disabilities and Mental Health Specialist and half time assisting the Family and Community Engagement Specialist. This role helps ensure the coordination and completion of the Disabilities and Mental Health and Family and Community Engagement component areas in accordance with HS/EHS/EHS-CC performance standards and the LIFT CAA Disabilities and Mental Health Plans. This is a safety sensitive position. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Strong desire to succeed, patient, able to resolve conflicts, kind, creative, resourceful, detail and multi-task oriented; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills as well as diplomacy and human relations skills; must be able to cope well with stress.Must have the ability to work as a part of a team, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and receive and provide feedback.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, stoop, bend, walk, talk, hear, use hands to grip, type, reach with hands and arms, occasionally required to stand or walk on uneven surfaces, and may spend 6 to 8 hours per month in strenuous physical activity, lifting up to 40 pounds. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Enclosed facility, classroom and office environment; floors may be vinyl tile or carpeted; may come into contact with childhood diseases and blood on occasion; regular on-site visits in child care facilities, and occasional home visits are conducted in family homes. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in carrying out agency policies, goals, and activities designed to implement social services and child abuse objectives and performance standards.Assist in maintaining and updating Disabilities and Mental Health, Family and Community Engagement, Child Abuse, and Confidentiality Component plans in conjunction with the Policy Council, Social Service Advisory Committee, parents and other center staff.Assist with conducting a Community Assessment once every three years and updating the Head Start Community Assessment in each of the two years following completion.Assist in updating the Tri-County Resource Manual for distribution throughout HS/EHS/EHS-CC centers and various professional agencies.Coordinate with other component staff to ensure continuity of services provided to children and families.Assist with staff training as necessary.Assist in conducting the Family and Community Partnership Advisory Committee meetings.Work with other social service agencies, councils, and/or committees to identify and serve the needs of Head Start families.Prepare reports as necessary for program operations and assist with appropriate portions of the annual PIR Report.Assist in conducting center visits and folder reviews to provide staff support and ensure proper documentation of children's folders and center records.Assist in the purchase of supplies for special needs children as necessary.Assist in updating and maintaining community partnership and LEA agreements.Participate in the Health Services Advisory Committee twice a year.Assist the Disabilities and Mental Health Specialist to ensure that all child related disabilities and mental health screenings occur (ASQ-SE, PLS-4).Assist in integration of children with disabilities and mental health needs.Participate in child casing meetings, IFSP and IEP meetings as possible. Assist in obtaining verification of child's special needs to ensure appropriate services are being provided to all special needs children.Assist in entering information into child tracking system. Ensure information is being entered accurately and timely.Assist in coordinating substitute teachers for classrooms as needed. Interview candidates and maintain an updated list of current substitutes.Attend Governing Board, Policy Council and other community meetings as necessary.Act as a community liaison between HS/EHS/EHS-CC and the public. Contribute to agency newsletter.Assist Non-English-speaking families.Provide all information requested for program documentation in a timely manner.Assist other staff with projects as requested. Perform other duties as assigned and reasonably within scope of duties listed above.Report to work at scheduled times and maintain good attendance. Perform all duties in a timely and professional manner. Participate with a positive attitude and behavior in all program activities.Keep all assigned records accurate and current as appropriate. Keep all records and family information confidential.Continue professional growth by participating in classes, training programs, workshops and conferences as the budget allows. Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service training, parent meetings and any other trainings, meetings or workshops as deemed necessary by the Disabilities and Mental Health Specialist, Family & Community Engagement Specialist, HS/EHS/EHS-CC Director or Executive Director.Become knowledgeable and maintain an understanding and support the philosophies, theories and the mission of HS/EHS/EHS-CC and LIFT Community Action Agency, Inc.The listed job functions, duties and responsibilities do not necessarily include all activities that the incumbent may perform. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's Degree is preferred. In lieu of education requirements, experience may be considered. Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license and automobile insurance.Possess an understanding of the needs of low-income families and an appreciation for the role of the parents as primary educators of their children.Must have a sincere interest in human needs and the ability to cope with problems encountered.Must remain non-judgmental in sensitive areas involving values, attitudes, and behavior.Obtain required criminal record check clearance prior to hire and during employment as required. Must not have pending charges, entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere, or been convicted of any criminal activity involving violence against a person; child abuse or neglect; possession, sale or distribution of illegal drugs; sexual misconduct; or an act of gross irresponsibility or disregard for the safety of others or a pattern of criminal activity; or required to register pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration Act or any person required to register under the Mary Rippy Violent Crime Offenders Registration Act.MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Constantly must be able to sit/stand in a stationary position 50% of the time.Frequently must be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.Frequently must operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.Frequently must communicate with staff and others who have inquiries about the program.Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.Occasionally must move/carry items weighing up to 30 pounds or more.Frequently must be able to lift at least 40 pounds and lift arms above shoulders, and spend time daily sitting on the floor with children.Constantly must visually monitor the behavior, learning, and activities of children.I have read and understand the job description listed above.
