Under generaldirection of a lead worker or supervision by departmental administrator performs highly skilled installation, repair, & preventivemaintenance on air conditioning, refrigeration, & heating equipment. Provides work direction, training & mentoring of lower-level airquality technicians and/or other trades workers performing craft duties. Established pattern of good work habits and performance with goodinterpersonal skills. Adheres to all OSHA and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines. Provides work direction,training & mentoring for other lower-level air quality technicians engaged in installation, repair, inspection & maintenance (includingpreventative maintenance) of air conditioning, refrigeration & heating systems. Reciprocating, centrifugal, screw and scrollchillers: cleans, repairs, troubleshoots electric fans, controls, compressors, handles refrigerant. Absorption chillers: cleans andrepairs; troubleshoots electric fans, controls, pumps, etc. Handles bromide. Dorm, dining & laboratory refrigeration: cleans andrepairs; troubleshoots walk-in coolers, freezers, ice machines, compressors, electric controls, pumps, etc. Repairs air conditioning,refrigeration, and heating systems, thermostats, relays, valves, controls, compressors & filters; solders piping asnecessary. Periodically inspects & tests installed equipment for proper assembly of components checking for any needed repairs &compliance with technical orders, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, specifications, handbooks. Installs, repairs, calibrates, andtroubleshoots pneumatic, electric, & DDC controls, VAV systems; reads and interprets wiring diagrams, schematics, PID diagrams, pipingdiagrams; identifies elements of process control (e.g., sensors, transmitters, variable frequency drives, controllers); installs, splices,and terminates low-voltage connections for control instrumentation wiring; generates new documentation, suggests & makes requiredmodification to system as needed; uses laptop computer and appropriate software to troubleshoot and adjust HVAC controls. Splitsystems: cleans and repairs; troubleshoots electric fans, controls, compressors, solenoid valves, etc. Installs & operates refrigeration,air conditioning, & heating units. Performs inventory control, work scheduling. Completes necessary documentation. Uses computerizedmaintenance management system (CMMS). Cleans and repairs window units, troubleshoots electric fans and compressors. Repairs,maintains, troubleshoots, and installs air compressors. Performs other related duties as required. MinimumQualifications Journey-level working knowledge of air conditioning & heating technology. Skill in installation andmaintenance of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment. Proficient use of personal computer and Windows operatingsystem. Read and write common vocabulary in sentence structure; Add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers, calculatefractions, decimals and percentages; Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems. Ability to carry outinstructions in written, oral, and pictorial form. Work independently or with others. Demonstrate willingness to work withdiverse populations. Demonstrate dexterity and skill in use of craft-associated hand and/or power tools andequipment. Knowledge of all applicable OSHA and/or Ohio University guidelines and procedures. Work at heights; Liftup to 50 lbs.; An established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills. Training &Experience: 48 months skilled experience in HVAC, refrigeration, controls, or equivalent. EPA refrigerant handlingcertification. Successful completion of any pertinent tests may be required. Valid driver's license. WorkingConditions & Physical Requirements: May be exposed to dirt, grease, odors, cramped conditions, extreme hot or coldtemperatures, heights, and electrical hazards; may be exposed to dangerous machinery; confined spaces.
