Job Title: Associate, Software Development Lifecycle Oversight Team (Non-Financial Risk: Operational Risk Department)

Background on the Position

This role will reside within the Firm's Operational Risk Department (ORD) focused on Technology Risk, more specifically Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

Operational Risk refers to the risk of financial or other loss, or potential damage to a firm's reputation, resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or from external events (e.g., fraud, legal and compliance risks or damage to physical assets). Management works with the business units and control groups to help ensure Morgan Stanley has a transparent, consistent, and comprehensive program for managing operational risk, both within each area and across the firm globally. This group designs, implements and monitors the company-wide operational risk program.

The successful candidate will drive risk management, predominantly focusing on SDLC and change management of technology impacting retail customers in their interactions with Morgan Stanley. The role will oversee, challenge and validate adherence to the Firm's SDLC in delivering high-quality technology through the Digital Direct channel. The successful candidate will work in close coordination with 2nd line Wealth Management Risk organization as well as leadership in Wealth Management Technology.

Primary Responsibilities

-  Establish a partnership with Wealth Management Information Technology (WMIT) to identify, document, assess, and actively manage risk across that function in accordance with the Morgan Stanley Operational Risk Management Framework.
-  Understand and drive the 2nd line SDLC oversight process to ensure delivery of high-quality technology through the Digital Direct channel.
-  Work with a team of professionals to operate the SDLC oversight process.
-  Actively manage risk in accordance with the ORM framework through oversight, challenge, and sample validation of the results of change management activities.
-  Develop appropriate metrics of the effectiveness of the SDLC oversight process and KRIs, and report then to the appropriate risk governance forums.
-  In partnership with the CTIS metrics team, integrate the process metrics in the overarching reporting process for Technology.
-  Participate in and contribute to Cybersecurity, Technology and Information Security (CTIS) organization's risk management initiatives.
-  Develop an ongoing partnership with other 2nd line risk organizations.
-  Bachelor's degree or equivalent, ideally in an area related to technology infrastructure risk (e.g., engineering, computer science, etc.)
-  Strong technology risk knowledge, including a specific focus on core infrastructure and processes such as technology change management, infrastructure services, the software development lifecycle, capacity management, encryption, and incident management.
-  5 or more years of work experience in technology infrastructure risk and/or related areas. Specific experience in financial organizations is preferred but not required. All relevant or related experiences will be considered.
-  Confidence to take ideas forward and to challenge others, where appropriate.
-  Proven ability to anticipate and identify risks and identify effective mitigation.
-  Solid understanding of technology related regulations and industry frameworks, especially relating to operational risk management.
-  The ability to multitask and prioritize; ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
-  Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to produce concise and effective presentations

Role is Hybrid and will require in office attendance 3 days/week.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $85,000 and $140,000 per year at the commencement of employment.However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
