Working hours:
Monday through Thursday from 7:00am to 5:30pm
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Responsible for the breastfeeding peer counselor program.
Responsible for the peer counselor program goals/objectives and policies/procedures, as well as determining staffing and scheduling needs for the program.
Recruits and assists in the interviewing of potential peer counselors.
Responsible for the training and orientation of peer counselors, as well as acting as a mentor.
Ensures quality through direct observation of counseling, group classes, and documentation performed by the peer counselor at least quarterly.
Leads monthly meetings with the peer counselors.
Serve as a breastfeeding resource and mentor for WIC agency staff.
Participates in Florida WIC PC Coordinator's conference calls and trainings.
Works with other WIC peer counselor managers in an effort to assess program for ongoing quality improvement opportunities.
Participates in appropriate WIC program and Health Department meetings and attends conferences and workshops as assigned.
As an IBCLC, provides high-risk or medically high-risk follow-up breastfeeding contact to WIC high-risk or medically high-risk clients.
Refers mom to her or her baby's health care providers for further assessment and medical care, as appropriate.
Communicates care plan to the rest of the WIC breastfeeding team, as appropriate.
Provides breastfeeding support services through telephone contacts, and group and/or individual support classes.
Provides breastfeeding education to WIC participants and records accurate data regarding client contacts.
Maintains lactation credentials and certifications and acquires ongoing continuing education to stay abreast of current lactation profession information and enhance skills.
Assists the Public Health Nutrition Program Director in creating and maintaining agency internal operating procedures and policies relating to Peer Counseling Program or other QA/QI activities.
Monitors the clinic environment to ensure that breastfeeding is endorsed as the normative method for infant feeding and that there is no evidence of promotion of artificial baby milk.
Performs bi-annual audits of agency environments to ensure they remain breastfeeding friendly.
Assists with maintaining an accurate breast pump inventory.
Oversees and promotes the use of the breastfeeding pod in the Dade City location.
The incumbent is a Dietetic Internship preceptor.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
