An Import & Export Specialist handles the logistics and compliance of international trade.
They are responsible for ensuring that the goods and services that are imported or exported meet the legal and regulatory requirements of the countries involved.
They also coordinate with various stakeholders, such as suppliers, customers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government agencies, to facilitate the smooth and timely delivery of shipments.
Major Responsibilities: Support classifies imported goods using Harmonized Tariff Schedule codes and stay updated on changes to tariffs and HTS codes and implement necessary adjustment.
Ensure accurate tariff classifications to minimize import duties and taxes.
Monitor and interpret changes in import policies into US, regulations and trade agreements.
Prepare and process import and export documentation, such as invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and customs declarations.
Coordinate international transportation and logistics activities, including selecting forwarders, negotiating freight rates and scheduling shipments.
Facilitate customs clearance procedures by providing accurate documentation and information to customs authorities.
Resolve any customs-related issues, such as duty payments, inspections, or customs holds to prevent delays in shipments.
Coordinate with customs brokers or agents to expedite clearance processes when necessary.
Monitor and track the status and movement of shipments and communicate with relevant parties to resolve any issues or delays.
Ensure compliance with the laws and regulations of the countries of origin and destination, as well as the international trade agreements and conventions.
Research and advise on the best shipping methods, routes, and carriers, and negotiate rates and contracts with service providers.
Maintain accurate and updated records of all import and export transactions, and prepare reports and analysis as required.
Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
Four (4) years of experience in import and export operations Managed import and export projects, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate and facilitate international trade operations, including customs clearance, documentation, and logistics.
In-depth knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and U.S. import regulations.
Knowledge of the international trade laws and regulations, and the customs procedures and documentation of various countries.
Knowledge of trade regulations, tariffs, and duties in various markets.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and other relevant software and systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Spanish fluency Import and export experience in the Automotive Industry
