The job description of an Infection Preventionist Registered Nurse (RN) in a long-term care setting typically encompasses a range of responsibilities aimed at preventing and controlling the spread of infections within the facility

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and accreditation standards related to infection prevention and control, such as those set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Continuing Education and Professional Development: Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in infection preventionand control through ongoing education and professional development activities.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential sources of infections within the facility and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.

Environmental Safety: Collaborate with environmental services staff to ensure that cleaning and disinfection protocols are followed to maintain a clean and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Emergency Preparedness: Participate in emergency preparedness activities related to infectious diseases, including developing plans for pandemic response and coordinating with local public health authorities.
