About Western Landowners Alliance: Founded in 2012 by landowners and managers, the organization aims to increase the wellbeing of working lands in the American West and the living communities, including human and wildlife, that depend on them.
Position Overview: This position is responsible for grant writing, prospecting, reporting, project management, and relationship management for institutional funders (foundations, government, and corporations).
Amount of Time & Status: 40 hours a week, exempt, Monday-Friday
Location: This position is remote, but individual must be located in the American West
Reports to: Development Director
Compensation: Salary is $70,000-$85,000 annually. Duties/Responsibilities Include: Identify funding opportunities consistent with organization needs and build upon program strengths and success. Proactively manage proposals, report deadlines, and calendar of deliverables. Develop and implement organizational grant strategy to address the areas of highest need within the organization, including future growth and expansion. Manage funder relationships through regular meetings, correspondence, facilitation of site visits, and check-ins. Write grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports to foundations, corporations, and government funders with input from program teams. Gather input and required support materials from program staff and key stakeholders/partners. Coordinate with program staff and WLA COO to create grant project budgets. Work with finance and program staff to develop implementation plans for successful spending and on-time execution of grant deliverables. Serve as subject matter expert in support of program staff related to allowable uses of grant funds, budget revisions, match requirements, extension requests, program amendments, and contract compliance. Document and maintain clear and timely records to summarize visits/conversations, capture donor profile data, track moves management using the development database, and send acknowledgement letters and thank-you notes. Attend program meetings as needed to maintain programmatic understanding. Provide data and stories from grants for organizational communication efforts (e-newsletters, social media, annual reports, etc.). Prepare detailed donor profiles and funder briefing material for the development team, CEO, program directors as needed, and attend solicitation and stewardship meetings as needed. Other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience required. Minimum five years' experience with government grant writing and management. Experience working for a government entity or nonprofit specializing in environmental conservation, preferred. Proven record of renewing and expanding support from government and private funders, and knowledge of federal uniform guidance, especially as it relates to budgets and match tracking. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with CRM database required. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. Creative and positive approach to communication and problem solving Willingness and ability to maintain confidential information and work with diverse populations. Working Environment/Physical Activities:?Work environment is an office and field setting. Physical activities include sitting at a desk and working on a keyboard and computer several hours a day; conducting business over the telephone and via email; standing and walking for long periods of time for field visits; traveling long distances by vehicle (including traveling on unpaved roads). Must be able to work in a variety of environments, including outdoor activities in a variety of weather conditions. This position may also require moving materials up to 25 pounds.??
