The nationally-ranked, NASPAA accredited School of Public Affairs (SPA) at the University of Colorado Denver seeks an engaging full-time 9-month/academic year Instructor to teach students in criminal justice, public administration, and public policy, starting fall of 2024 (preferred, and can be fully online for this first term if needed) or January 2025. The expected teaching load is eight courses over the academic year in person and online (4 in each semester). There may be additional summer teaching opportunities available as a separate contract as well.
This position currently has budget approval for two academic years, however, this is an at-will position and reappointment for the second year is contingent upon successful job performance, the needs of the school, and any adjustments to the budget. Moving expenses will not be covered for this position.
Key Responsibilities & Areas of Teaching:
Teach courses online and in-person as needed by SPATeach courses at both the Undergraduate and Graduate (master's) level as needed by SPATeach courses in the Criminal Justice, May teach Public Administration, and Public Policy programs as needed by SPA Areas of expertise and teaching areas that we are looking for include:
Methodological expertise: the most essential need is in teaching courses related to - Statistics and Research Methods especially in GIS, Data Visualization, Mixed Method Design, and Practice-informed Analysis. Additional Areas of expertise and teaching areas that we are looking for include:
Criminological or Organizational Theory, Interpersonal or Community Violence, Courts, Homeland Security, Victimology Contribute to the ongoing growth of the Criminal Justice program through committee service, student mentorship (formal academic advising provided by professional advisors in the School), serving as a second reader on capstone projects, and positively contributing to SPA programsWhy Join Us: As Colorado's public urban research university, the University of Colorado Denver educates a diverse student body through quality academics, ambitious research, creative work, and civic engagement in the city we call home. Anticipated Pay Range: The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: $57,000 - $60,000 per academic year depending on experience and other qualifications.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
PhD in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Criminology, Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, Public Affairs, or a closely related field. Applicants must have teaching experience and effectiveness in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology and/or public affairs programs.Demonstrated ability to teach online classesPreferred Qualifications:
Experience designing and teaching courses with a university learning management system (preferably Canvas) Ability and experience teaching all or some of the following specific courses:Research Methods courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, and/or Public PolicyStatistics for Criminal Justice (graduate and/or undergraduate)Crime Analysis & GISInterpersonal and / or Community ViolenceKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
