Applies engineering principles to design, modify or develop facilities, testing, machines, equipment or processes used in processing or manufacturing products by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities
Interprets and applies codes, procedures, standards and specifications to accurately and efficiently produce designs which conform to applicable codes and specifications
Interprets complex vendor data or drawings for conformance with project requirements and initiates resolution of any problems.
Accurately develops material takeoffs and estimates.
Proficiently operates various AutoCAD systems. Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform design tasks.
Consistently demonstrates example skills in structuring assigned activities, creativity, teamwork, handling a client's changing needs, communications, operational efficiencies, decision making, and analyzing and solving problems.
Inspects equipment for conformance with design specifications. Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements and related technical data pertaining to industrial machinery and equipment design.
Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning and other technical and economic factors.
Provides information to those in field construction. Provides accurate technical advice and training to others. Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning.
Studies engineering and technical publications to keep abreast of technical changes and developments in industry.
Associate degree in Engineering Technology from an accredited institution or equivalent years of design experience.
Design experience, which includes work connected with arctic electrical installations, NEC, motors, motor controls, and third party certifications. Preference will be given to those with experience in high voltage power lines design and/or ETAP.
Checks various designs, diagrams, drawings, etc. for compliance with applicable codes and specifications.
Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
Designs fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment.
Designs applications of controls, instruments, and systems for new commercial, domestic, and industrial use.
Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.

Qualifications
Education/Experience
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent in Engineering Technology from an accredited institution or equivalent years of design experience.
Minimum five (5) years experience designing electrical drawings.
Experience with electrical processes.
Applicable cold weather experience required.
Experience with 3-D modeling .
Previous experience supporting Conoco Phillips preferred.
Language Ability:
Read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Write routine reports and correspondence. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Math Ability:
Math skills sufficient to: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent. Draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
Ability to operate a keyboard and calculator by touch. To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in MS Word and MS Excel, and Outlook and Access.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
The position requires a person that is able to travel and work in a remote location overnight or longer. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and adverse outdoors weather conditions. The employee is expected to abide by all required safety regulations, behaviors and conditions, as required at the local or remote work locations.
The noise level in the work environment is usually high in the Process Areas and requires Hearing Protection. Work in Anchorage will be in a high-rise office building in a private office.
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally exposed to severe outside weather conditions and perhaps the risk of electrical shock. The noise level is usually quiet.
Some company locations and projects require the employee to travel to remote industrial facilities which will require the employee to fly in aircraft of various sizes and visit the production facilities where excessive noise, heat and cold temperature will be experienced. The ability to climb ladders, stairs and traverse industrial platforms in the performance of the specialist's duties will be required.
