Tallahassee, Your New Home! Near, but far, from the well-known destinations of the Sunshine State, Tallahassee offers a distinct culture and community with access to some of the world's greatest beaches. The capital city, Tallahassee, is a hub of political activity and home to universities, research institutes, and some of Florida's most pristine nature. Often described as 'The Other Florida' with its deep-rooted history, rolling hills, mild climate, southern-style hospitality, and canopy roads of moss-draped oaks.
Tallahassee is a medium-sized city where the power of the state government and a vibrant academic and artistic community are complemented by old-fashioned charm. Tallahassee is located in the central northwest panhandle region of Florida, 30 minutes north of the Gulf of Mexico and 30 minutes south of Thomasville, Georgia. This region marks the center of the eight-county Big Bend area.
Tallahassee is a great place to live and a better place to practice!
Partnership with Florida State University Building upon TMH's existing education and research partnership with Florida State University (FSU), the partners recently announced a plan to build the FSU Health Tallahassee Center, a new facility that will offer advanced medical training and translational research opportunities and explore the academic health center of the future.
The building, funded by a $125 million appropriation from the Florida Legislature, will be located on the TMH campus and include educational, medical, and research laboratory space while drawing on the knowledge and expertise of TMH clinicians and faculty from the FSU College of Medicine and College of Nursing. The center will provide about 130,000 gross square feet of medical and research-related space distributed over five floors. It will accommodate an estimated 30 principal investigators, producing an estimated $40 million of additional annual grant funding, focused on clinical trials, data-driven precision health, digital health and clinical informatics, and clinical and translational research. The preliminary conservative economic impact of the new Academic Health Center alone is expected to add more than $217 million annually and support more than 1,500 jobs directly and indirectly. During the three-year construction phase, roughly 1,200 jobs will be created. Post-construction and activation, the center will sustain more than 350 permanent and high-paying jobs.
TMH and FSU have also broken ground on a new healthcare campus located in Panama City Beach, Florida. The campus is planned to be located on an 87-acre parcel near the intersection of State Highway 79 and Phillip Griffiths Sr. Parkway, just minutes from the Latitude Margaritaville Watersound community, the 55-and-better community which is planned for 3,500 homes.
