What You Will Do The Inventory Optimization Specialist is responsible for analyzing store-reported inventory issues to identify the root cause and appropriate solutions. This role participates in team member training and program implementations to improve in-store processes. This job classification utilizes analytical skills and inventory management tools to contribute to reducing inventory spend and ensuring customer satisfaction through effective inventory management.
How This Role Makes a Difference Responsible for conducting research, producing analyses, and recommending actions to resolve store-reported issues with out-of-stock items. Monitors reported issues to 24/7 Command Center via phone calls, e-mails, and survey responses. Investigates issues to determine if they are caused from process, item maintenance or other. Executes reporting procedures and distributes to appropriate business partners. Creates ad hoc reports as requested. Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) related to inventory turnover, stockouts, and excess inventory. May present analyses to leadership. Recommends prioritization of identified inventory control issues by supplier. Collaborates with leader to develop best practices and processes for store ordering including manual ordering, Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO), on-hand inventory count accuracy and stock rotation. Participates in meetings to discuss opportunity areas and escalate trends to leadership. Conducts program implementations including managing timing, communications, tools, and training, in conjunction with Operations Program Specialists. Responsible for advising Store Team Leaders and District Merchandising and Operations Partners on inventory training opportunities. Provides business partners and store department leaders with training materials. Conducts in-person training at select store locations. Establishes and maintains effective business relations with the Sales and Merchandising team to improve stock levels, reduce shrinkage, reduce inventory spend, and enhance overall inventory performance. Education & Experience High school diploma and a minimum of three or more (3+) years of retail leadership experience including ordering/inventory management, process improvement and implementations. Bachelor's degree in retail management, marketing, project management or similar is preferred. Required Knowledge Data analysis Strong knowledge of retail store operations, merchandising and process improvement. High level of computer literacy and ability to operate related software programs. Skills & Abilities Must demonstrate an advanced proficiency with MS Office suite including Excel spreadsheet creation. Solid analytical and technical skills. Ability to present analysis and conclusions in a clear and concise format using charts and tables. Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills. Strong prioritization and organization skills. Self-initiative, a sense of urgency and innovation/creativity. Ability to work in a team and partner across departments to drive decisions. Physical Demands - Employees may occasionally experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time: Sitting; frequent sedentary work. Viewing computer monitor. Keyboarding; use of fingers to make small movements such as typing. Work Environment Work is performed in a normal business office environment. Occasional travel to other locations such as store sites, meetings or conferences.
