Full job description Supplemental Information The Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General, Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for an Investigator/Special Agent. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Investigator/Special Agent 1-3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).


Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected. The position domicile is TBD. Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory background check, drug screening and reference verifications.

Louisiana Bureau of Investigations: Provides follow-up investigation services for the LADOJ; responds to requests for investigative assistance from government agencies, including the apprehension of fugitives; and provides investigative services in cyber crimes, white collar crimes, and public corruption.

Medicaid Fraud Control Unit: The Louisiana Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) is a state law enforcement agency, and it's mission is to investigate and prosecute health care providers who have defrauded the Medicaid program. The MFCU also investigates and prosecutes allegations of abuse, and neglect of residents in health care facilities.

The MFCU utilizes a team-based approach to uncover abuse and neglect of residents and complex financial fraud committed by healthcare providers, including hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies, physicians, dentists, nurses, and other Medicaid providers. The MFCU holds offenders accountable through criminal prosecution and civil litigation. From inception through disposition, the nurse will assist attorneys, investigators and forensic auditors in criminal and civil investigations and prosecutions.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license. Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Possess a Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training Certification ( P.O.S.T ); Two years of full-time satisfactory experience within the last five years conducting investigations for a commercial, industrial, governmental, or law enforcement employer; An associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or relevant experience and a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations related to health care and the facilities, particularly in the Medicaid program; Experience in criminal investigations; Experience in financial crime investigations. Job Concepts The job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:


Review and evaluate allegations of abuse and/or neglect of residents in health care facilities and the circumstances surrounding the events to determine if further investigation is warranted; Assist other Assistant Attorney General's in case preparation and testify at grand jury and trial as needed; Request, review, and analyze complex medical documentation; the provisions of care delivered by health care providers in all health care settings. Identify and capture electronic evidence, such as screenshots, videos, websites, domain registration and hosting information, mail server information, and other data found in computers and digital media; Evaluate the implementation of the standards of care; Prepare a variety of documents, reports, and spreadsheets related to assigned projects and cases; Serve as a resource for the MFCU staff by explaining medical terminology, medical procedures, expected standards of care, and differing responsibilities of health care providers. Engage and communicate directly with consumers, businesses, law enforcement agencies, and others in furtherance of investigative duties; Knowledge of criminal investigative principles, techniques, and methodologies; of state and federal statutes, rules, and regulations pertaining to law enforcement activities; and of criminal and civil court proceedings and rules of evidence.
