The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) is seeking an experienced investment attraction focused business development professional, based at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC. The Investment Director role is responsible for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) from the United States into Australia in areas in and related to those identified in Australia's List of Critical Technologies in the National Interest. You will build and execute on a pipeline of commercial opportunities in a subset of these sectors, including: cyber security, artificial intelligence, quantum, data centres and other emerging technologies. This role will also work closely with our Defense team, supporting clients with dual-use technologies across commercial and defence applications.
The successful candidate will possess well-established sector knowledge in these areas and have a network of relationships to support the business development needs of the role, centred on Washington DC and surrounding areas, as well as the East Coast of the United States. You must have experience in developing new business opportunities resulting in commercial outcomes, and a demonstrated commitment to high performance. Experience across technology, anticipating technology trends and existing relationships with scaleups and established multinational tech companies through to venture capital and ecosystem partners will be highly valued.
Duties include: Within assigned priority sectors, identify, target and attract major US enterprises and fast growing companies to invest in Australia.Contribute to the delivery of investment promotion events, programs and initiatives as per the objectives outlined in the Austrade Business Plan.Develop and maintain productive business networks in the market, representing Austrade at a senior level with companies, government agencies and business groups.Research and identify opportunities to promote Australia as a location for investment and deliver presentations at relevant conferences and business events.Monitor and assess key business and sectoral trends as well as significant commercial developments in the US, Australia and globally to inform investor targeting and engagement.Support visits to the US by government ministers and senior officials through the development of briefing documents and programs to raise the profile of Australian business, investment opportunities and to foster new business linkages.Ensure strong working relationships with key stakeholders including state governments and industry associations.Eligibility: To be eligible for consideration and appointment you must have:
