!60/pp Nights- every 4th weekendJob Summary:To provide nursing care to Med Surg patients for all age populations.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneDuties/Responsibilities:Uses only approved abbreviations.Understands patient safety goals & actions taken.Demonstrates awareness of patient rights.Uses 2 patient identifiers before giving treatments, demonstrates process.Understands read back of verbal orders/critical lab values & can state process.Understands procedure to clarify physician orders.Uses standing orders when indicated.Accurately calls report to MD as warranted by condition; reports to other providers as needed.Reports sentinel events or adverse drug reactions or incidents as warranted.Uses final verification before invasive procedures & can verbalize correct process & documents in EHR.Reassesses patient in response to changes in condition after intervention as needed & documents in EHR.Communicates with & provides education to patients, caregivers, & family members in a timely manner (using respect & dignity when dealing with death & dying) & documents in EHR.Initiates care plans within 8 hours of admission & updates on a daily basis.Uses aggressive pain management by assessing for pain a minimum of every 2 hours & documents in EHR.Provides education to patients & family & documents in EHR in a timely manner.Admits patients to unit within 2 hours of arrival to include: physical, functional, skin, safety & pain assessments & documents in EHR.Transfers patients using the appropriate criteria & documents in EHR, includes sending the necessary forms with patient & calling report.Provides basic nursing care: ADLs, HS care, foley care, weights, etc.
correctly & timely & documents in EHR.Applies physical restraints according to policy.Uses MET team in response to deterioration in patient condition.Knowledgeable of high-risk meds & can state correct process of administration.Knowledgeable of look alike/sound alike meds & can give examples of such.Administers narcotics timely as ordered & assures correct documentation & counts.Can indicate process of obtaining meds after hours & which meds can be given before reviewed by pharmacy.Understands what meds can be given by what discipline & can state examples.Uses appropriate techniques when administering meds which require calculations.Maintains security of narcotics/drugs by keeping drawers locked & keys (if applicable, in possession of staff at all times).Uses Omnicell to obtain, waste & return medications.Demonstrates proper use of bar code scanning.Processes instruments per protocol & can state process.Cleans patient care items as needed & keeps room clean & tidy.Knows how to check for negative pressure in isolation rooms.Checks crash cart according to policy.Places Peds sensors on correctly & documents in EHR.Uses IV pumps with all IVs & labels correctly.Aware of door alarms & security methods of MS/SCA.Restocks supplies when needed to PAR levels.Identifies patients as fall risk, follows protocol & documents in EHR.Required Skills/Abilities: Strong customer service skills & team playerEffectively communicates both verbal & writtenAble to multi-task & prioritizeAble to perform basic nursing skillsAble to operate basic office equipment & medical equipment (IV pumps, automated medication delivery devices)Must be able to supervise nursing assistantsEducation and Experience:Minimum Associate's degree in nursing, Bachelor's degree preferred.No work experience required.Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana.Physical Requirements: Constant walking, standing, talking & use of hands; frequent reaching.May need to lift up to 25 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs
