The IT Manager will play a pivotal role in establishing and maintaining a robust and secure IT infrastructure for our new university. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of IT operations, including network infrastructure, cloud services (Google Workspace and Google Cloud Platform), IT security, endpoint management (company-owned and BYOD), and end-user support. The IT Manager will collaborate closely with the COO to align IT strategy with the university's overall goals and ensure a seamless technology experience for faculty, staff, and students. Full-time position based in Austin, TX.  Mostly on-site role, potential for 1-day per week WFH.
\n Key Responsibilities:Network Infrastructure: Maintain a reliable and scalable network infrastructure that supports the university's academic and administrative needs (with help from an MSP).  Ensure high-availability and performance of network services.  Manage network security, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPNs.Cloud Services (Google Workspace):  Oversee the administration and optimization of Google Workspace for email, collaboration, and related productivity tools (especially Slack, Monday.com . Ensure data security and compliance in the cloud environment.  IT Security: Develop and enforce IT security policies and procedures to protect the university's data and systems.  Implement and manage security tools such as antivirus/antimalware software, email filtering, and web filtering. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.  Develop and execute incident response plans.  Establish and Manage BYOD and MDM Solutions: Develop and oversee a BYOD program that securely integrates personal devices for faculty and staff while managing our MDM solutions for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS devices.Helpdesk Support:  Oversee the IT helpdesk's small staff to provide timely and effective support to end-users.  Develop service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) for helpdesk operations.  Implement a ticketing system to track and resolve support requests.  Develop and Manage IT Budget: Strategically plan and oversee the university's IT budget to align with institutional goals and ensure cost-effectiveness.Evaluate and Select IT Vendors: Identify, assess, and choose IT vendors and service providers that best meet the university's needs while ensuring high-quality services.Negotiate Vendor Contracts: Lead contract negotiations with IT vendors to secure favorable terms and value for the university.Stay Updated on Emerging Technologies: Continuously monitor advancements in technology and industry trends to integrate innovative solutions that enhance the university's IT capabilities.Provide Technology Leadership: Serve as a trusted advisor and thought leader, offering strategic IT guidance to the university community.Train Faculty and Staff: Design and deliver training programs to equip faculty and staff with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize university IT systems and tools.This job description is not exhaustive and may be subject to change based on the evolving needs of the university.Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:Experience:  7+ years of progressive experience in IT system administration, with at least 3 years  in a manager-level role.  Proven track record of successfully managing IT operations in an educational or similarly complex environment.  Demonstrated  expertise in Google Workspace platform administration, IT security, endpoint management, and helpdesk support.   Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.  Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Deep understanding of IT best practices and industry trends.Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is a plus, but not strictly required.Certifications: Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CCNP, or Google Cloud certifications are a plus. Demonstrated  expertise in network infrastructure design/build, cloud services management of GCP or AWS.Experience with budgeting, vendor management, and contract negotiation.
