Job Summary

CLASS TITLE: IT SPECIALIST II BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, coordinate, monitor and provide a variety of specialized services in the installation configuration, operation, repair and maintenance of network servers, routers, firewalls and switches and related equipment; coordinate, monitor and resolve daily work order requests and assign tasks to staff as required; provide technical user support assistance; assure proper network security; oversee and perform data mapping and warehousing functions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Coordinate, monitor and provide a variety of specialized services in the design, installation configuration, operation, repair and maintenance of District Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Local Area Networks (LAN) and related equipment; assure proper network security.
Monitor and review daily technology work order requests; determine how best to resolve these requests and delegate tasks to staff accordingly.
Troubleshoot network problems involving routing, communications, network operating systems, printing, servers, memory management and other applications; conduct diagnostic testing on computers and network configurations as needed; install patches and perform upgrades to servers; install and repair computer security equipment; add and delete electronic mail accounts.
Provide technical information to other departments, sites and end users; provide training and support in the proper use of installed software systems; respond to questions or problems in person or on the telephone.
Prepare and maintain records related to assigned activities and maintenance of system and user documentation; manage user groups and security access.
Consult with vendors, service providers and technical support regarding purchase of parts, status of repairs and software and hardware related questions; order parts and equipment in accordance with established guidelines; provide technical assistance to outside contractors.
Operate and maintain a variety of specialized equipment and software related to the upgrade, installation and repair of network systems; utilize a variety of hand and power tools to make repairs.
Attend and participate in meetings, conferences and seminars related to computer technology to maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.
Drive a vehicle to sites to conduct work; maintain routine records related to work performed; prioritize and respond to emergency calls.
OTHER DUTIES:
Assist with researching, evaluating and recommending the purchase of computers, networks, peripheral equipment and software and other hardware for compatibility, user needs and District requirements.
Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by a college-level degree in computer science or a related field and three years of experience in the installation configuration, maintenance and repair of computer systems, networks, peripherals and related equipment.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license and proof of current California auto liability insurance at time of appointment, and throughout employment in this classification.
Personal automobile for job-related travel.
CCNA and/or MCSE preferred.
