What is a Telecommunications Systems Designer?
A Telecommunications Systems Designer focuses on the Company's Network Strategy projects within the Operational Technology Communications team. The incumbent will support the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Company's own communication network which encompasses fiber optic and microwave links between various substations and headquarters, as well as a radio mesh for distribution devices. Network Strategy projects enable SCADA, corporate, metering, security, and other user access. Title/level is commensurate with practice.
What does a Telecommunications Systems Designer do? »Manages Network Strategy performance and requirements and determines design standards and specifications.
»Supports the Network Strategy team's capital projects and programs, which improve system relicapability of substations, gate stations, fiber backhaul, tower sites, microwave, radio mesh network, and other various communication infrastructure and equipment.
»May assist, lead, or provide oversite for capital projects including contract and material procurement, budget reporting, and equipment in-service states.
»Supports the design and implementation of the Company's fiber network, including the Fiber Management System.
»Supports and designs the Company's microwave radio equipment and infrastructure.
»Supports and designs the Company's Land Mobile Radio System, including base stations and radio sites.
»Develops best practices, service standards, and equipment capcapability standards for system reinforcement, design, and operation.
»Provides support for storm/emergency restoration efforts.
»Contributes to a rotating on-call schedule for after hours support.
What does it take to be a Telecommunications Systems Designer? Required: »Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related field of study and practice in a technical function related to network/telecommunications infrastructure. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an associate's degree with 3 years of relate practice or a high school diploma or equivalency degree and 5 years of related practice will be considered.
»Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the capability to lgain new computer software programs quickly
»Flexibility to multitask and operate under pressure in a fast-paced work environment
»Well-developed written/verbal communication expertise

»Must be able to work off-hours and weekends when required and be available 24/7 for scheduled callout support
