Internal until 10/01/2024 POSITION: Job Placement Specialist (FVEC) 10 hours/week Grade 4
ASSIGNMENT: 10 Month Temporary & Grant Funded Assignment Effective October 11, 2024 - Contract may be renewed annually pending grant funding.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This work involves close interaction with case managers and adult service agencies to coordinate student transition from school to work and adult services.
A Job Placement Specialist provides a school-based service, designated by an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in a community-based off-site job-training site.
These take place in a public setting.
An employee in this position is expected to exercise discretion and react appropriately in crisis situations as well as exhibit initiative and creativity.
An employee in this position works with clearly established systems and procedures, must exhibit organizational skills and exercise independent judgment and confidentiality in the performance of duties.
The Job Placement Specialist must exhibit initiative and embrace a collaborative team approach to accomplish the mission of the district.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have or obtain State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional designation in accordance with requirements specified by the Illinois State Board of Education. Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials and office equipment up to 40 lbs. Must sit at workstation for extended period of time and/or move frequently from workstation to various other areas of building. Must organize and prioritize workflow. Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment. Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and parents as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude. Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public. Must have awareness of a variety of student needs including physical and social emotional needs. Must have experience working in the employment services field and with persons with disabilities preferred. Must have ability to implement teacher/case manager directions effectively using various instructional methods/strategies. Must be available to work an irregular schedule as necessary. Must complete district approved Crisis Prevention Institute training (CPI). Must have a valid driver's license. POSITION EXPECTATIONS: Assisting students in the Vocational Lab, Work Center and worksite under the remote direction of certified staff by implementing instructional and behavioral goals as identified in the student's IEP. Assisting certified staff by, but not limited to: a.
maintaining accurate student records
b.
assisting students in overcoming employment barriers
c.
documenting and disseminating transportation and job site incident reports
d.
entering daily data collection

Serving as liaison to the Career Discovery Center program by, but not limited to:
a.providing instruction on required job duties and responsibilities related to the students functioning level
b.
acting as liaison between student, local businesses, supervisor, staff, case manager and parents/guardians
c.
attending Career Discovery Center training sessions and staff meetings
d.
managing transportation to and from work site to the student's home address

Assisting at the work site by collecting data and modifying job requirements to meet individual student's abilities and to facilitate learning.
5.
Developing IEP summaries, attending IEP meetings and writing quarterly evaluations.
6.
Assisting and monitoring students' health concerns.
7.
Completing safety training at the vocational sites.
8.
Demonstrating appropriate job tasks and model work skills.
9.
Participating in appropriate professional development activities in order to enhance job performance.
10.
Cultivating and developing inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students and community members.
