*Position Overview*
The Charter School of Educational Excellence's School Psychologist will work collaboratively with school leadership, students, parents, teachers, and school support staff to help our students achieve the highest academic, emotional, and behavioral success.
The psychologist holds all students to high expectations, supports the needs of a diverse student population, and determines appropriate strategies and interventions that will allow students to excel academically and emotionally.
*Responsibilities & duties (including, but not limited to)*
* Conducting psycho-educational evaluations, including cognitive and academic achievement testing, and providing
* high-quality counseling sessions for scholars with IEPs and at-risk scholars;
* Creating, implementing, and tracking behavior intervention plans for students with behavioral needs;
* Leading crisis management for scholars needing this support and engaging in the school-based support team to ensure student progress through the proper supports and interventions.
* Have experience with a variety of psycho-educational and behavioral tools
* Have a background in counseling and crisis management
*Student Assessment – *
* Measure student achievement and progress toward learning objectives using the school's formative and summative assessment tools
§ Evaluate academic achievement through detailed data analysis of student performance on a wide variety of metrics
§ Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress toward meeting expectations and achieving goals
* Use student data to reflect on the effectiveness of lessons and student achievement progress to improve instruction and personal practice
§ Schedule the parent meetings, write the parent survey, and find parent-training tools.
* Schedule the annual review meetings, coordinate the meetings, and communicate with parents regarding the results
§ Completes all reports in a timely manner
*Student Support & School Culture – *
* Assess educational outcomes and their instructional implications for individuals or groups using achievement or mastery tests, student portfolios, performance-based assessments, and curriculum-based measures.
* Collect data on individual students, classrooms, and programs to design effective interventions using research-based strategies to enhance service delivery and evaluate these interventions' effectiveness.
* Assess aspects of the classroom and school environments that contribute to or detract from the social, emotional, and academic development of students' Socialization and Development of Life Competencies.
* Design and implement individual, classroom, and school-wide programs in social skills, social problem-solving, conflict resolution, decision-making, mindfulness, growth mindset, and life skills.
* Design and implement classroom management and student discipline approaches, positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), ecological interventions, and strategies for enhancing classroom climate.
* Provide individual and group counseling to help students whose behaviours impact them socially, emotionally and/or academically.
* Help design and participate in student support teams, coordinated school-based PBIS teams, Safe School Climate committees, SEL committees, and other efforts dedicated to improving school climate and service to students.
Prevention, Wellness Promotion, and Crisis Intervention
* Design and implement prevention programs, including the school's comprehensive social/ emotional learning program.
* Design programs to prevent and intervene in situations involving severe academic, behavioral, or emotional difficulties
* Design and implement procedures to support students, school staff members, and families in times of crisis.
* Other tasks as assigned by the Principal
*Academic & certification qualifications *
* Master's degree in Psychology - *Required*
* NYS Certification - School Psychologist Bilingual Extension *(Required)*
* 3+ years' experience as a School Psychologist
*Work experience & skills*
* A passion for the mission of the Charter School of Educational Excellence
* Must be able to read, write, and speak Spanish at an advanced level
* Must have excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Must be comfortable conducting evaluations
* Must be organized, motivated, and willing to work as part of a team and independently
* Excellent communication skills, particularly with families from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously, and take direction as needed.
* Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations regarding Special Education and English Language Learner service
Physical Requirements
* The ability to ascend and descend staircases
* The ability to lift 5-10 pounds
