POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, the Laboratory Operations (LabOps) Assistant will work as part of the Operations Team to provide comprehensive facilities and research support services to the research programs in the organization.
Our core objectives include streamlining laboratory operations, facilitating the administrative aspects of research, and providing comprehensive facilities support that meet the evolving needs of our research programs.
The mission of the LabOps Team is to provide support services to our stakeholders and support bio-economy innovation.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential:
(30%) Routine Preventative Maintenance Exercises for Equipment
Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues and help support repair visits.Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for routine equipment maintenance.Perform routine freezer scrape downs and defrost.
(30%) Laboratory Support Services
Collect laboratory coats for laundering and redistribute them to ensure laboratory personnel always have access to lab coats.Support for glassware collection, washing, autoclaving, and redistribution.Support for Stockroom inventory monitoring and restocking.
(15%) Chemical Lifecycle Management Support
Ensure hazardous chemicals are appropriately tagged and stored, recorded in the CMS database, and disposed of as required.Assist with inventory reconciliation efforts.
(10%) General Office & Laboratory Operations Administration & Logistics
Office/Lab Space Management tracking and updating floorplan.Collaborate with other ESE operations teams (IT, Admin, Comms, etc.)
as directed by the supervisor.
(10%) Environmental Health & Safety Compliance
Navigate the training database and identify incomplete/expired trainings.Contact and follow up with researchers and personnel regarding training.Assist with safety walkthroughs and initiatives when needed.
(5%) Community Building Initiatives & Practices
General operations support for team meetings and area events. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential:
1-2 years of related experience working in a lab.
Ability to work within defined procedures and practices to produce consistent and reproducible results.
Exhibits time management, organizational, and project management skills.Ability to multitask and evaluate multiple inputs, prioritize tasks, and achieve outstanding productivity.Ability to work as part of a team; and to work collaboratively with a large and diverse set of customers and service providers in a professional manner under direct guidance from the supervisor.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Attention to detail and careful record keeping.Strong computer skills, especially M.S.
Office/Google Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based data systems.Awareness of safety issues in the work environment and basic knowledge of lab and workplace safety requirements.

Bachelor's degree in the Biological Sciences or related field.
