Histology Technician - First Shift
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Histology Technician to join our team in a pathology laboratory.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for organizing and processing tissue samples, ensuring quality assurance, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
This is a 6 month contract with potential to become a permanent role, or have opportunity to transition to other labs within the hospital network.
Responsibilities
Organize blocks in numerical, alphabetical, and numerical order
Use the block melter for block melting
Perform Block QA, especially with Beaker Go Live, involving computer work
Pick up rush tissue cassettes and load them onto the tissue processor
Run the Xylene recycler
Clean molds using the mold cleaning unit
Pick up tool boxes
Change routine H&E stainer
Pull blocks for recuts
Assist in changing tissue processors as needed
Essential Skills
Experience in laboratory settings
Knowledge of tissue processing
Understanding of biological principles
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Biology degree or equivalent experience preferred
Work Environment
The role includes 8-hour shifts from Monday to Friday, with one position starting at 3 AM and another at 5 AM.
