Career Growth Excellent Colleague Support Great Benefits Package Bonus Eligible Position Job Details The Labor and Delivery Nurse Manager is responsible for the clinical, operational, and administrative leadership of the Labor and Delivery (L&D) unit. The Nurse Manager will ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care to mothers and newborns, manage nursing staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote a safe and supportive environment. The Nurse Manager will also oversee performance improvement initiatives, staff development, and ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements. Leadership and Management Provide leadership and oversight for the daily operations of the Labor and Delivery unit, ensuring effective and efficient staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation. Supervise and mentor a team of registered nurses, nurse assistants, and support staff. Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and patient-centered care. Foster an environment of professional development and continued learning for the nursing team. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards. Lead quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and implement evidence-based practices. Clinical Oversight Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare providers to ensure the highest standard of care for mothers and newborns. Monitor patient outcomes, addressing any concerns regarding quality of care, safety, or patient satisfaction. Support staff in managing complex, high-risk deliveries and provide clinical expertise as needed. Ensure timely communication and coordination of care with all relevant departments, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Postpartum Unit. Staffing and Development Recruit, hire, and onboard nursing staff for the Labor and Delivery unit. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and mentorship to team members. Identify educational needs and facilitate opportunities for staff to develop clinical skills and stay current with best practices in maternal and neonatal care. Manage staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage for all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Budgeting and Resource Management Oversee the department's budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high standards of care. Manage inventory and procurement of supplies and equipment necessary for labor and delivery. Monitor financial performance and report variances to the Director of Maternal and Child Health. Patient Experience Ensure that patient care is compassionate, respectful, and aligned with the hospital's mission to deliver exceptional healthcare. Address patient and family concerns in a timely and professional manner, ensuring satisfaction with the care provided. Promote breastfeeding and provide support for new mothers in collaboration with lactation consultants. Qualifications Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field preferred. Licensure/Certification Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts. Certification in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB) or equivalent preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Experience Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience in labor and delivery, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role. Skills Strong clinical knowledge of labor and delivery practices, including experience with high-risk pregnancies. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Work Environment Full-time, salaried position.
