Job Summary:
The Laboratory Aide is a key support member in the workflow of the lab and will work as team player to ensure the efficiency and turnaround time of the processing of Histology samples.
The candidate will work closely with the Histotech and Shift Supervisor.
The Laboratory Aide is responsible for accessioning, labeling, filing, writing slides, discarding old specimen samples and retrieving deeper and special requests from Pathologists.
Job Responsibilities: Maintenance and operating of laboratory equipment incongruence with Laboratory procedures and saftey policies. Receive large volume of biopsies from multiple couriers and ensure all biopsies are accounted for.
Report any discrepancies. Data entry of all cases into the Laboratory Information System to ensure patient information and referring physician information is correct. File all blocks and slides & scheduled retrieval of blocks and slides from off-site warehouse. Dispose reagent waste and old specimen. Retrieve Pathologist requests for additional or special testing Write slides and print reports for all additional and special stains to be provided to Pathologist Assist in maintaining daily log of number of cases cut per Histotech Assist in transport of additional cases and special stains from Microtomy area to Staining Area. Store laboratory supplies and assist Supervisor in inventory control. Answer phones. Liaison in retrieval and delivery of requested slides, blocks, and requisitions. Scanning of daily requisitions. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Demonstrate organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to troubleshoot any clerical issues that might arise Candidate must be able to learn how to operate the Laboratory Information System (LIS) used in the Department. Candidate must be well organized and be able to manage a demanding workload and moderately complex cases in an accurate and timely manner. Ability to participate as a member of a team, including demonstrating reliability, punctuality, professionalism, respect and adaptability to new and changing situations. Ability to work independently and multi-task. Candidate must be able to work independently and accurately in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment. Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff demonstrating tact and sensitivity in stressful situations. Working proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) or similar software is required and an ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs. Experience in a Histopathology and/or Immunohistochemistry lab is preferred.
Hourly Rate Ranges: $20.40 - $28.56
Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
