Laboratory Information System Technologist

Job Requisition: REQ 2583 Employment Type: Full -Time Shift: Days & Weekends Hours Per Week: 40 hours

Hiring Range: $37.33- $48.53

Offer rates are based on experience.
Offer rates at the higher end of the range are only for applicants with many years of experience

Responsibilities:

Maintain laboratory dictionaries and coordinate changes with Acute, Ambulatory, and Billing Support; this includes changes to tests at reference laboratory, and coordinating updates with healthcare portals such as HIXNY and MEDENT.
Represent laboratory at meetings on information technology initiatives, and update laboratory staff.
·Perform initial testing for updates to SMH electronic health record.
·Monitor, and resolve charge rejections, and billing issues.
·Assist with updating laboratory IMO Code Changes

Monitor and resolve issues with reporting systems to ensure timely faxing of results.
·Monitor and resolve issues associated with pendign test, reflex test, and exception logs associated with reference laboratory; proceduralize daily functions for Reference staff.
·Serves as resource to laboratory staff for department specific projects or issues.
·Assists with Report Writing in support of Quality Initiatives.
·Maintains clinical competency in one department within the laboratory service.
Utilizes safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies.
·Participates in training and education of others as requested ·Creates and uses work aid documents as needed.
·Support of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for performance enhancement.
·Successfully troubleshoots clinical application issues that can be highly complex.
·Maintains up-to-date knowledge of available clinical application enhancements and requirements to facilitate improvements.
Complexity of Work:

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in stressful environment

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Biology preferred.
A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Microbiology or Information Technology is also acceptable Licensure:

Must be licensed in New York State as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Technician.
Must be able to speak, read, write and follow instructions in English.
Work Experience:

·Experience with MEDITECH family of electronic health records required.
Experience with MEDITECH Expanse preferred.
·Ability to navigate multiple computer systems.
Computer literate and working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets ·Excellent communication and documentation skills.
