Position SummaryThe Laboratory Manager will be responsible for conducting multiple research projects, including the Hatch project with multiple faculties in the department and any funded research projects or contract testing for outside agencies by testing and evaluation of polymer, fiber, and textile materials. The position will manage laboratories that house a range of equipment to help characterize polymeric materials, fibers, fabrics, and clothing to assist in research on product development and quality control.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesAbility to operate and maintain multiple laboratory instruments.Knowledge of spectroscopes (ultraviolet, infrared, etc.), thermal analysis instruments including DSC, TGA, and DMA, and physical testing of fibers, fabrics, and films.Ability to learn new instruments and train others.Knowledge of grant proposal writing.Strong written communication and critical thinking skills.Ability to analyze, interpret, and report data.Duties/ResponsibilitiesContribute to the development of grant proposals for submission to external agencies for funding.Independently perform experiments for research projects, including literature searches, designing and executing experimental plans, and analyzing data.Manage graduate and undergraduate students in the development and implementation of research plans.Maintain laboratory instrumentation and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Administer purchasing of chemical supplies and manage hazardous waste materials.Contact InformationFor questions concerning this position or recruitment progression, please refer to the Recruitment Contact listed below.
