JOB TITLE

SUMMARY
The Laboratory Team Lead assists with coordination of workflow and supervision of employees in the assigned laboratory. Works closely with management, coordinators, and shipping/receiving personnel to ensure that all customer and internal compliance deadlines are met. Issues are communicated and reported directly to Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Adhere to API Standard 19C, API Recommended Practice 19D, standard operating procedures, and other industry standards.

Perform testing on proppant samples such as sieve analysis, fluid rheology, and conductivity and permeability.

Operate laboratory equipment such as balances, ovens, slot flows, rheometers, and presses.

Continuously monitor and expedite both customer and proficiency testing samples and inform staff of sample priority.

Ensure that all Lab Technicians on assigned shift are following standard procedures and that all safety policies are enforced. Responsible for quality of service and results on the shift.

Aid in cross-training of employees on their shift.

Communicate any issues to management and/or dispatchers where necessary.

Lead laboratory staff.

Enforce all Core Laboratory policies.

Oversee the workflow, work schedules, quality, and supply issues to management.

Team Leads may be required to give huddle meetings.

Ensure that all scheduled compliance tasks are delegated and completed in a timely manner.

Ensure that laboratory equipment is cleaned and sterilized.

Set up, adjust and ensure correct operation of laboratory equipment for which the Lab Technicians have been adequately trained and verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practices.

Assist in ensuring that Laboratory Technicians have been verified to be able to perform all tests in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.

Read and understand all analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP, and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory.

Assist with calibration of laboratory instruments for which the Technicians have been adequately trained and have been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.

Attend training and pass appropriate examinations in petroleum, chemical, and gas analysis, including Right-to-Know training, hazardous materials disposal, and other safety and compliance training required by applicable regulations.

Understand and be able to complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into laboratory computer programs.

Inspect, suggest, and implement changes in processes.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree preferred.

7 plus years related work experience and/or training; An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Thorough knowledge of laboratory processes. Must have operational knowledge of various laboratory instruments and materials.

Demonstrated effective leadership abilities.

Mechanical aptitude is required. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds, up to 25 pounds, and up to 40 pounds. The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

ProTechnics requires laboratory technicians to meet the following qualifications:
Pass the drug and alcohol test specified by ProTechnics for safety-sensitive employees.
Be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions to nausea when odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs).

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and explosives. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the environment is moderate.
