Position Overview
A leading engineering and design firm is seeking an experienced Survey Department Manager to lead its Survey-Geospatial Group in Rhode Island. This role involves overseeing all technical, managerial, marketing, administrative, and financial aspects of the department, ensuring the highest standards of service and innovation.
The firm provides advanced Surveying and Geospatial services to a broad range of clients, including utility companies, developers, government agencies, transportation organizations, architects, and engineers. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary technical resource between project teams and survey staff, facilitating successful project outcomes.Assist project managers with preparation for client and agency meetings, presenting essential project details.Develop business opportunities through client relationships and strategic market outreach.Operational Leadership Oversee internal and external client communications.Prepare proposals, manage budgets, and handle invoicing.Lead multiple field survey teams and office-based CAD personnel.Manage the processing of survey data, the creation of base maps, and the development of detailed plans using advanced software.Expand the client base and strengthen relationships with existing customers.Supervisory Duties Monitor department performance to ensure high-quality deliverables, including technical reports, plans, cost estimates, and permit documentation.Set performance goals for staff and provide constructive feedback.Manage project timelines, budgets, and quality assurance processes.Establish long-term objectives and strategic plans for the department's growth and success.Qualifications A degree in Surveying or Geospatial studies (preferred but not mandatory).At least 10 years of surveying or geospatial experience, with expertise in the Massachusetts market.A valid Rhode Island Professional Land Surveyor License (required), with licensure in Connecticut or Massachusetts considered a plus.Dual licensure as a Professional Engineer is an advantage.Strong communication skills in English for professional interaction and documentation.Proficiency in Software Tools: Trimble Business CenterAutoCAD Civil 3DMicroStation/Open Roads (preferred)Leica Cyclone and/or TopoDOT (an advantage)What We Provide
