What You Will Do As a Landfill Equipment Operator, you will operate heavy, medium, and light equipment to grade and compact solid waste, place and grade soil, move scrap metal and haul landfill leachate.
Working under the direction of the Solid Waste Manager, you will perform maintenance and complete paperwork while maintaining a safe work environment.
The work you do will help Carroll County Government provide effective services related to solid waste.
Essential Duties Operate heavy, medium, and light equipment and CDL vehicles, including track and rubber-tired loaders, end dump, bulldozer, backhoe, tank truck, landfill compactor, power broom, and pick-up/small trucks.
Operations may be in close proximity to other equipment, vehicles, and the public.
Grade and compact solid waste at the landfill disposal cell; place and grade soil cover over trash.
Operate rubber tire loader to move scrap metal, tires, brush, mulch, stone, dirt, and other materials.
Operate track loader excavator and dump truck to excavate, haul, and place cover soils.
Perform general light maintenance on vehicles, equipment, tools, and infrastructure.
Assist Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic in performing medium or heavy maintenance as needed.
Load and haul landfill leachate and septage for disposal at local treatment plants.
Collect and record data using a maintenance management system, including logging daily work, documenting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, and preventative maintenance tasks.
Complete routine paperwork such as time sheets and reports.
Follow all established safety rules and regulations.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals.
Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.

Licenses Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement (Tanker Endorsement must be obtained within 6 months of employment) Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card Additional Information Will be required to work outside of standard hours.
May be identified as Essential Personnel during emergency situations.

Work includes daily physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders, and related activities.
