Job SummaryUnder general supervision of the Supervising electrician, the Lead Electrician performs journey-level electrical installations, maintenance and repair within the buildings, grounds and structures of the University and other related duties as required. Key ResponsibilitiesProvides lead work direction and assist in coordinating projects.Instructs and leads skilled, assigned personnel as required. Uses knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the trade in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, following building codes and safety orders in daily performance of duties.Assembles, installs, maintains, and repairs electric lights, motors, heaters, transformers, switchboards, and other electrical apparatus. Troubleshoots electrical systems and makes repairs.Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of National and California Electrical Codes. Ability to read, interpret and work from plans and drawings. General knowledge of electrical tools and safety practices. General knowledge of electrical installation and maintenance. Ability to direct work of unskilled helpers. Ability to read, write and perform arithmetic functions. Physical strength to perform work assignments that required lifting/carrying (50lbs. without assistance and up to 100 lbs. with assistance), standing, climbing, crawling, and walking required. Ability to learn and use a sophisticated computerized work system at a level commensurable with the position. Solid work history with emphasis on personal integrity.
