The Product & Data Engineering team is responsible for end to end development for Disney's world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and digital products & experiences across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, NatGeo, and ABC News. The Hulu Discovery team builds systems that provide data at scale. We implement reliable, high-request services that deliver data that helps power the Hulu user experience across web, mobile, and living room devices. We are looking for a software engineer who wants to build and operate these critical services that support a massive population of Hulu viewers! Job Summary: You'll join a hardworking group of engineers who build and manage systems that publish data to Hulu's internal and edge-facing services - ultimately powering Hulu clients running on smart TVs, smartphones, gaming consoles, FireTV, Apple TV, Roku, and others.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role: Work with your team to design solutions related to the discovery of content for Hulu viewers
Work with your team to design resilient, scalable solutions for the systems and services that support our viewers
Work with your team to execute on your designs and contribute the solutions of others
Lead other engineers toward the execution of your solutions
Mentor individual engineers with the aim of growing technical and domain expertise
Make a case for your ideas by presenting to engineering and product stakeholders
Manage a broad set of work and provide clear information to stakeholders on the status of your efforts
Basic Qualifications: Strong programming skills in Java and other object-oriented languages, and a strong grasp of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, databases, etc.)
Architectural design capabilities
A pragmatic approach to execution that focuses on frequently delivering value to Hulu's viewers
Strong discipline to delegate work and focus on solving management problems
Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills
A broad perspective on problem-solving
An ability to work both independently and collaboratively
7+ years of experience in software engineering 5+ years of experience crafting large-scale, highly available Java services utilizing various database and messaging technologies.
Experience designing system architectures
Experience operating production services
Experience establishing and maintaining observability best practices
Experience building on AWS
Experience deploying and scaling within a cloud infrastructure.
Experience managing heavy data including ingesting, cleansing, validation, and analysis
Experience with data systems including databases, messaging systems, distributed data computing and analytics such as Spark, Flink, Hadoop, EMR
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
The hiring range for this position in San Francisco is $163,500 to $219,200 per year, in Seattle or New York is $156,300, to $209,600 per year and in Santa Monica is $149,300 to $200,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
