POSITION SUMMARY: Supervises and participates in the work performed by employees, beneficiaries and/or community service workers in the sorting room/warehouse; ensures that all donated items are processed through the sorting room/warehouse in a timely manner and in accordance with established standards; ensures the thrift store remains adequately stocked.

LEAD SORTING ROOM WORKER JOB DUTIES: Serves as a lead worker to sorting room/warehouse staff (employees, beneficiaries and community service workers); schedules and monitors their work; instructs and trains staff in the proper methods and procedures for performing work; inspects work in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness; responds to employees questions and assists in resolving operational and personnel problems; ensures the work is performed in compliance with established standards, policies and procedures.
Monitors the arrival and distribution of all donations ensuring that items reach the appropriate destination in a timely manner; coordinates the distribution of items prepares for other thrift stores.
Monitors the supply of items available in the thrift store in order to determine the areas needing additional stock from the warehouse.
Inspects donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. in order to determine the appropriate price; inspects appliances to ensure they are in proper working order.
Supervises and assists in selecting items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.
Supervises and participates in tagging items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
Supervises and participates in hanging clothes on hangers and placing same on clothes racks.
Supervises and participates in packing items in boxes; ensures that boxes are marked accordingly; assists in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area.
Supervises and participates in the housekeeping duties; ensures that the warehouse area is maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
Ensures the warehouse area is properly maintained and secured at all times.
Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment needed in the warehouse.
May assist in loading and unloading trucks as needed.,
STORE HELPER JOB DUTIES: Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area; may assist with hauling donations to the storage area; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed.
Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customer's have handled.
Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick-ups.
Cleans all display racks and shelves; sweeps and mops floors; cleans windows and mirrors; ensures that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or G.E.D preferred., Two years experience performing warehouse work with at least six months experience in a supervisory capacity, or, any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Valid State driver's license may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of effective and efficient warehouse operations. Ability to lead and motivate co-workers. Ability to determine the suitability and appropriate pricing of donated items. Ability to ensure the warehouse area and equipment are maintained in a neat and orderly manner. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language. Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light objects (less than 25 lbs.). Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
