Scope of Duties:
Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP) staff members are committed to providing friendly, courteous service to the public. All work-related tasks will be performed in a professional, competent manner. The lead worker serves visitors to MSHP by supervising guest services representatives, working with the museum store clerks to maintain museum store programs, and handling all aspects of financial accounting at the assigned location: Colonial Michilimackinac or Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park in Mackinaw City or Fort Mackinac on Mackinac Island.
Work Location and Schedule:
The workstation for this position may vary and could include the Colonial Michilimackinac and Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park Visitor's Centers in Mackinaw City; work location may change during the season. Due to the supervisory nature of this position, the lead worker will normally work 35-40 hours per week, which includes weekends.
Responsibilities: Put our visitors first by treating them as respected guests and serving their needs.Substitute in the guest services representatives' supervisor positions on their scheduled days off.Perform the duties and responsibilities of a guest service representative at regular sales areas as needed.Perform cash register checkout at the end of the day and complete the daily paperwork as outlined in the established procedures for each site.Assist museum store clerks in maintaining the museum store and ensure that standards for safe food handling are followed.Perform office activities as needed, receive and direct phone calls, receive and direct visitors to requested destinations, and implement all office procedures as outlined in the office procedure policy.Assist guest services representatives with problems arising with computerized cash registers, coupons, group tours, and visitor-related issues, as needed.Assist the sales assistant with the training of guest services staff.Other related duties as assigned.Requirements: High school graduate.Ability to supervise people of all ages.Familiar with computers.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing (ability to read and write).Ability to perform simple bookkeeping procedures.Ability to operate basic office machinery such as calculators, typewriters, copy machines, and computerized cash registers.Ability to maintain professional confidentiality.Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.Physical Requirements:
Stretching and bending are moves commonly made throughout the day by employees in this position. The employee must have the ability to do the following activities, with or without reasonable accommodation: frequent lifting, carrying, transporting, loading, and unloading of up to 35 pounds, walking long distances and up steep inclines in all weather conditions, frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, and grasping, sitting and/or standing for long periods of time.
Supervision:
In conjunction with the Head GSR Supervisor and Lead Guest Service Representative, this position directly supervises guest services representatives at MSHP locations the lead worker is scheduled to work. This position will report to the Sales Manager. The Chief of Finance and Accounting will supervise all accounting procedures and office activities.
General Position Information:
This is a temporary seasonal at-will position which serves at the will of the employer and does not include recall rights or benefits (other than those mandated by governmental laws). This position will expire at the time employment is ended for the season and the employee does not have recall rights to this or any other MSHP position in the future. Specifically, the park is under no obligation to hire the individual in subsequent seasons. The number of weeks and hours worked may vary as park needs dictate. Additional information will be provided upon employment.
